Janeway never had any inclinations of doing it, I wonder why.  Is it just because there just wasn't that many people to date?

I agree it's probably a very poor idea. I don't know if it should be an absolute no.

Eternal7, you've got me curious, now: is there a coworker you want to date?

LOL, no- but I was wondering what people thought about the idea especially in Star Trek. :)

Did you ever see the travesty known as MISSION to MARS? As the name implies, astronauts go to mars and the commander his astronaut wife is in the crew. He dies a rediculous death in space, while his space-suited wife carries on like a fool! Priceless. In life, I dated a coworker once. She was cute, blonde ... affectionate. It didn't work out, because she liked another coworker, instead. I simply accepted it and let her go, without incident or comment. This was not good enough, for her. She proceeded badmouthing me, endlessly, because she got sick of being asked, "hey! how's things with you and 2takesfrakes?" ... like I put them up to it! Anyway, I left a year later and a lot wiser ...

Perhaps, I should have used The Picard Manuever on her. She would've left a contented woman, instead.

Some of you are ill-Qualified to say anything. We're on a friggin' Star Trek website, and besides, who among us could say no to Doc Crusher. I bet she can synthesize some bad-assed drugs. 40% of married Americans met their spouse at work so there is a precedent. I wonder whose job it is to clean jiz out of the holo-deck?

In the wonderful "Utopia" that Roddenberry gave all of us there are still issues humans have with dating their crew. Remember when Picard was with that keyboard player and he stressed over her away mission? He wanted love but his heart needed to explore and be a Star-fleet Captain.

Henry Rollins said once that you can either have relationships or be a musician. I am proof of that. When I was with my ex for five years I didn't play music at all. Now I record and play all the time. I loved him dearly but music is what calls me and what saves me from being lonely. I can say some of the same about Trek.

I dont think it's an issue of Just being a commanding officer. I think it's an issue of Drive. If you are driven most often you will be somehow lonely, but you may accomplish a lot.

Speaking to Captain Janeway and her place in things herein, she was in a position no other Starfleet commander was-save Ransom, we later saw-stranded countless ly's from home, and on a small ship, as far as that goes, where her options were limited even further. I can see the logic of arguing against it, but, if you look at her 'dalliance' with Michael from Fair Haven, if you care to put it so casually, I think it went a tad deeper. Though he was not flesh and blood, but a program, she had the freedom to let go, and just have fun,to share ideas and interests without risk of anything, but, of course, it gets more complicated,  as, like in any real-life situation, shared interests can lead top something more, and then we see Kath is starting to alter his parameters, and starting to question whether she should, even though she's every right to...except he's becoming more than a smile and a pleasant afternoon's company. Point is, as strong and brilliant and devoted she was to getting her crew home, to maintaining the Starfleet ideals, and protocols-basic..she was still a woman, a human being with needs to be met. Like Picard, she had her main focus, but, for a long time, she imagined Mark would be waiting for her, or hoped he would, and when the 'Dear Jane' letter came, well...it was over. And she still had no certainty even then when exactly they would get home. She chose in Michael what was her nearest option, and I can see why she would, rather than try to pursue the feelings Chakotay held for her, and she him. The criticality of her place as leader of the effort home, the heart, and soul of the Journey would no doubt, magnify the Fleet protocol tendencies she'd have otherwise followed in her place as a captain. But, it doesn't seem fair, that someone who gave everything she had for everyone else, was, beyond finding love and acceptance and understanding in the Family she helped form, protect, and nurture must be isolated in the one way which defines being a human being.
