mine works fine and it is great.  Occasionally in a really bad lightning storm it will go out.  It has never gone out with snow.  Maybe pointing the dish at the satellite would help.

I'll take that as a constructive suggestion.

We had a big dish and switched to the smaller dish, going with DISH Network.  So far so good.  Yeah, during heavy rain or really high winds our picture can go out, but it's way better than that DTV *&#&^$^##^@,*#^@)*$&^#*^$^,#$#&*@()*#&@()*& and (*$^&*^,#@#^@)#$,&@#$&@#,$;)(&@()#!!  I swear, all you have to do is look cross-eyed at it and you loose the pic.  We've had to perch at the corner of the bed ( it's in our master bedroom ) with the right arm up over the head and slightly towards the south, another person on the bed and leaning on the other person with their left leg straight out towards the west and the one on the bed has to have their head leaning to the north.  All of that and the pic came in, anyone moved and it lost the signal.
As for cable....... HAH!  It cost way too much to get it out this far from town.  30 years ago it cost $1000.00 a mile to get it to my folks, but everyone between town and my folks house would only have to pay to get it from the main cable to their house, $150 at the time.  Now, I'm scared to even try and find out what it'd cost!!  We'll stick with our sat. dish.  I do miss the big one at times, I could move it east and get in the clear free feeds of Star Trek!  The ones that the stations get.  Oh how I miss that!

Can you hook up one of those old 80's style huge deflector dish looking satellite dishes and do anything with it today?

Some folks turn them into parabolic mirrors and melt vehicles passing by on the interstate...... . ..

What book is it in, the Illiad or Odysee?  (Spelling?) Where they destroyed the ships with hundreds of shields shining the sun's light to burn the enemy's naval vessels? (or "wessels" )

Sorry, random thought...
