"Homecoming" ****

This was an entertaining and engaging season opener. The writers continue to give Major Kira great character stuff. I thought the rescue ploy was a little bogus, but ultimately the complexity of the story involving Bajor's political struggles more than made up for things.

"The Circle" ****

Another great episode. It was interesting to see the Sisko and the rest of the crew react so genuinely to the prospect that Kira may be permanently reassigned. Kira's exposure to the Orb was interesting, albeit somewhat ambiguous. The revelation that the Cardassians are supporting The Circle indirectly reminded me of the "Redemption" plot in TNG.

Can't wait to see "The Siege!"

I would recommend you watch the Siege at least twice -- especially if it's a little difficult to follow the first time. There's a lot of stuff going on in that one!

In the DS9 Companion book they talk about how the actors rehearsed that long scene in Kiras quarters at the start of the Circle episode. Then it took them only 1 take to get it right.

Yeah that long scene in Kira's quarters is a lot of fun to watch. I love the Circle trilogy and probably watch it about once a year.

I have every intention of buying that DS9 Companion. I have the TOS Compendium and the TNG Companion. I figure if I'm going to be watching the whole series, I better man up and make the purchase.

It's awesome better than the TNG one. I've had mine since it came out.

"The Seige" ****

So, DS9 Season 2 starts off with 3 episodes in-a-row rated 4/5! This was a good conclusion to the "Circle Trilogy," although it was, in the great tradition of TNG, not really the most creative or satisfying conclusion to what ended up being a great build-up. This was certainly "more action, less talk" which I like at times, but it seemed like there was some real depth they could have explored here and the opportunity was missed. That being said, I liked the "Die Hard" approach Sisko and the remaining DS9 crew took. It kind of put them in a role-reversal with the Bajorans playing the occupying Cardassians and the DS9 crew playing the "freedom fighters." I thought the air-to-air battle with Major Kira was well done and made great use of a tight budget. Vedic Winn is still my most hated villian in this show. I hope we get to see her go down (no spoilers, please!;)

Loved the whole Circle triology.

Very rare in any TV series that you have the two main villains also be Academy Award winning actors.

Excellent storyline.

The Circle trilogy was exactly where DS9 needed to go after a confused first season.  Along with the introduction of the Maquis, DS9 managed to distinguish itself from TNG in season 2 with this arc.

Well, the first season is always a little rough. Remember TNG's first season? Not very good.

Every first season is going to be rough as you are always trying to establish the characters to move forward.

TOS didn't have the same problems the later series did in the early seasons.  Season 1 had The Corbomite Maneuver, Conscience of the King, Balance of Terror, City on the Edge of Forever, Space Seed and so on.  Either that show was in for 4 AMAZING seasons to follow, or there's something else responsible.

"Invasive Procedures" ***

This is another good scifi concept exploring the uniqueness of the Trill symbiosis concept. The episode has a cool "ghost town / snowed in" feel to it, due to the interesting idea of the storm surrounding the station. I thought it was cool to put Quark in a position of having gone "too far," and then having him in a position to redeem himself with some bravery. I also liked how Sisko was patient, waiting for the operation to be complete before springing his plan to appeal to the Dax symbiant to save Jadzia. Overall, a good episode.

"Cardassians" ***

This was a good Garak / Bashir vehicle, and also a good episode further exploring the Cardassian culture. There was some ugliness explored within the Bajoran culture and even in the character of O'Brien, going back to his background with the Cardassian border wars. I think the most valuable aspect of this show was the message that not all members of a race are the same, which is sometimes a fact that Star Trek itself forgets.

"Melora" *

This didn't appeal to me at all. I thought it was contrived and uninteresting. I think the main issue is that I never really connected with the Melora character or her disability. I think this is where the writing / direction came up short. The concept of her disability is interesting, though. I just wish they could have executed better.
