Montgomery Scott got an initial brief before meeting Captain Kirk in the transported room with his assistants. "The Constellation has been wrecked, grab your tool kit and beam over with me to see how bad." His old ship. His first ship. Where he learned more about engineering a starship than all the years of school and journals he'd read or written.

"How bad?" Scott asked Kirk as they stepped onto the transporter pad.

"Don't know." Kirk said signing a pad containing one of his reports Rand had handed him. She took the pad back and stepped away from the platform. "Subspace interference. But she was obviously attacked."

Kirk's words began on the Enterprise but ended up on the Constellation. Scott had accepted the fact that the old girl could have flown apart at any minute any number of years earlier. But to be attacked... and wrecked this deeply into Federation space... was unexpected.

The smell of charred metal and wire and flesh filled the dark air. Smoke nearly choked the Enterprise men as Kirk fumbled along the bulkheads to find the manual light switch.

Sparks glistened in varying cascades until the lights warmed up. Washburn had found the back up manual switches.

The deck was strewn with shattered systems and buckled support beams. "This was one of the few decks with airtight integrity." Kirk said stepping over debris to Scott's expression which seemed to say "why here?"

His tricorder had been wooing. "Compartment will hold. For now."

"I'd just like to know what happened here." Kirk said matter of factly.

"Have you tried the log entry?"

"The bridge is gone."

"There is a duplicate play back log in auxiliar control."

"Great, Scotty. You see what you can find down here."

"Aye. Washburn, I want a full damage control inspection and I'm going down to have a look at the engines."

"I hope you're sure about this, Jim," Scotty said somberly and on the rare occasion he referred to the Captain by his first name. "Everything we know about subspace cosmology and astrophysics says this is wrong and it'll blow the ship apart."

"I'm sure."

Scott nodded as though that was all he needed to hear. "Carstairs  is in engineering, I'll monitor from the bridge."

"Better get down there, Scotty. If anything does go wrong, I want you in engineering."

"Aye, sir."

Spock Prime looked old, really old. He usually wore his two hundred years well, but all the deaths he felt he bore a certain responsibility for weighed on him. And the thought of the Enterprise and crew taking such a big risk to get him to his home universe... he just felt tired.

Spock placed a hand on his shoulder. McCoy saw it as a gesture of support. It was a transference of metabolic energy. Among the many capabilities of Vulcans was a sense of strength one could pass on to another. Not so much a melding of minds or bodies as a sense of sheer will.

Prime put his hand on Spock's as if to say thank you, but I am alright. Spock withdrew his hand unaccustomed to the display. He'd been around Vulcans far too long. The see no emotion, hear no emotion, feel no emotion facade required of all Vulcans made even Spock ill prepared to be in the presence of a Vulcan who had long since abandoned the facade. Prime had been underground among Romulans on Remis and various Romulan Empire Colonies working on reunification between the Vulcans and Romulans.

It was a last career for him, after years as ambassador and a full career in Starfleet. He expected to die in the Romulan sphere of influence but not before he had made enough of a difference that a successor generation would see reunification and even a treaty of peace between the Federation and the Romulan Empire.

Daniels stood by Kirk's side seated in the command chair. "Warp and impulse engines to full reverse, engage the transwarp drive... now."

As the Enterprise crossed through the layers of subspace to neutral space, the stress and strain on the thrusts in opposite directions pulled on every atom on the ship. The crew lost consciousness immediately but were frozen into place. The thing that was unnerving about the primitive mode of transwarp travel was the sense of uncertainty when coming back around to awareness. "How long were we at transwarp?" "Did we arrive at the desired destination?"

Using the entire ship as a transwarp conduit (or nacelle) was a last resort effort to a 26th Century crew... by Daniel's century the technology was literally the size of a walnut and typically the smallest component on ships of his era which were mainly not much larger than a runabout.

"Transit time, 26 point 7 hours. Destination achieved."

"Are you still with us Mr. Scott?"

"Aye."

"Polarize the view screen."

The yet unnamed singularity loomed ahead just out of range of sweeping the ship into its gravity well. Daniels called it only the correct porthole to Prime's universe. He was busily engaged in programming the ships computers to loose the information as to where this singularity actually was. It was necessary to sever the ties between the two universes... someday the scientifically curious or the thrill seeker might try to make a leap from universe to universe.

"I will see Prime off, Captain."

"Very well."

Daniels made his way to the flight deck. He was unwilling to tell Kirk he'd never see him again. He hated good byes. He found Prime strapped into his shuttle in contemplative meditation. "May I come in?"

"Yes. Of course."

"You and I hav a unique perspective on this universe. Neither of us are from it."

"Indeed."

"Don't be so somber, Spock. It could've happened to anyone."

An eyebrow raised.

"The meld you had with Picard. Have you ever pursued it in meditation?"

Not surprised this 31st century traveler knew of the ability of the mind meld he answered him, "I melded with him to touch my father's thoughts from a previous meld with him. While I am certain the ability of Vulcan mind melds is in the libraries of your day, I am curious as to how you know of the mind meld with Captain Jean Luc Picard 120 years from now."

"The Nexis. "

Spock's eyes narrowed and he ####ed his head slightly.

"You'll understand," he said slapping into the Vulcan's hand a walnut sized devise.

"Your travel pod. You'll need this upon your return."

"It's more than a travel pod, my friend. It's a database. When you return you will know how and why to use it. I will no longer need it once you cross the event horizon of the singularity."

Daniels seemed curiously familiar... calling him "my friend."

"Do we meet again in the future?" Spock asked.

"No. We met in the past. And when you get back everything will be set back to the way it should have been."

"Live long and prosper."

"So long, my friend."

The shuttle launched into space and headed right into the gravity well. It wasn't pretty. It didn't have to be.  All the precautions for angles of trajectory and the theories behind them made no difference at all. What goes into a singularity comes out another.

As he crossed over into the home universe, he was surprised to emerge in the deep void between galaxies. Ahead was the milky way galaxy and home, It's familiar shape was welcoming... until his shuttle rose above the equatorial plane... the huge sphere in the center of the galaxy was right where it was supposed to be from the vantage of the equatorial plane. But as he rose above the plane the sphere was out of place... closer to the galaxy edge than it should have been.

Suddenly his communications were jammed with vast numbers of distress calls for help. He engaged the walnut sized device into the scanner console by his helm controls. The device in addition to being a transwarp drive was a database. One in which Daniels explained in a recorded message that the red matter he'd halted the mega-super nova with only worked for a short while. Had he remained to use the rest of the red matter aboard his ship, it could have dissipated the nova, but it came back with a vengeance like a rubber band being pulled back and then snapping.

The sphere was in fact the mega-super nova which had already consumed the Romulan Empire, Federation, and most of the Klingon Empire with no end in sight. As his shuttle continued to ascend the galaxy center could be seen as a more distant sphere which began interacting with the mega-supernova pulling the galaxy and each mega sphere toward one another.

Spock Prime know what to do, as Daniel's said. He turned his shuttle about and headed for open space pondering which distant galaxy he would go to.

"Spock, if you get this message, it means the universe has been set to right again." a holographic image said on the console. "It means there will no longer be a 31st Century... not this one, anyway. There will be no temporal cold war. And no one will violate the laws of time physics anymore to avoid death or the death of a loved one or the end of entire worlds.

"Your history recorded death twice... well three times, if you count that time with Archer and the Suleban. But I was in the Nexis, that ribbon that killed your friend on the Enterprise B."

It suddenly began to dawn upon Spock who Daniels was.

"I was later written off for dead at Veridian III. But I have since lived many long and prosperous lives, Spock. It's me... Jim Kirk. Or the essence of me. In the 31st century old bodies can be replaced with new ones using technology similar to the transporter. I have been many people too. The final frontier of the 31st Century was the temporal cold war. The fractures in the universe from the time travel of others necessitated the cold war. The very fiber of the universe has so thinly worn and the fractures so erratic it was closer to causing the entire thing to unravel than most were aware.

Now that all is restored, I am in the Nexis along with Picard and certain in his crew who were there. It turns out this is the final of the final frontiers. Live well and don't look back.

"Captain's log stardate 2312.345. The ride back from the drop off point for Spock Prime was as rough as the ride there but we made it in one piece. Now it's on to Rigel to meet that demon machine head on.

The transwarp engines were set to over load as the doomsday machine ingested the abandoned ship. The explosion was so great that it shattered the otherwise impenetrable hull.

NCC 1701 would be replaced by NCC 1701A (the Gabe Koerner version) and fitted with the transwarp nacelles Daniels had shared the data about and Spock managed to de encrypt and subspace comlink to Starfleet command.

NCC 1701A

Molly Faris might make a good redhead Janice Rand

Her role can be double as ships fitness coordinator as the actress is a skater and golfer and very sport conscious.

I was thinking the more wholesome / semi-strumpet (an updated version of the role Whitney played). But there is a Spanish element lacking in ST. Perhaps a hispanic role Yeoman Janice Ran or Ratan etc. could be played by someone like Candice Michelle (the Go Daddy dot com model). But that could be too much strumpet for this type of  show and might derail it / if not alienate people.

Valerie Perez might be able to pull the role off... but there is the chance LULAC might take offense in either case that the Latina was cast as the loose crew member...

My initial gut feeling may be the best way to go with someone like Molly Faris...

Cully Fredricksen (who played the First Contact Vulcan Captain:

That was 1996 he's 14 years older now and makeup transformed him into the Spock look alike above from this:

Gray hair, wrinkles, less hair, and there you have it, the new Spock Prime.

He could probably double as Picard if such a scene is necessary.

This is all so mish mosh (my apologies) but as I think of things to add to the story I'll bring them in. It's up to the professional writers to arrange everything into an interesting if not palatable tale...

But Spock Prime along with Spock can be cracking the encryptions Daniels puts in place to make the transwarp capabilities only temporary. In reality it would not affect his plans or future one way or another. And the time line already had several factors from the future interfere with the natural flow of time (if that even existed anymore since the other timelines were corrupted by temporal incursions....

Along with the transwarp design Spock Prime adds in a starship design database which was rejected in this time line (that had been a starfleet staple in his time line) and produces the Korner type Enterprise (after Federation engineer / designer Gabe Koerner)... this transwarp capable NCC 1701A:

The current NCC 1701 will be the sacrificial lamb to defeat the doomsday machine that the Constellation was in the other timeline...

This story line looks like it might be a large book, or a series of movies.

The destruction of Vulcan should be addressed in XII. This is an interesting way to do so.

If a/the doomsday machine, which destroyed the Constellation in TOS, does show up in a movie sequel, Spock Prime would know how to deal with it. He may even know a better way than sacrificing a ship.

The TOS Doomsday Machine episode, the biggest beneficiary of the CG retrofit, is great to watch. It's a white knuckler, but it would need an expanded story line to be movie-worthy.

Nimoy is a bridge to the new movie series, as Shatner was in VII, but nothing more. I'm not expecting Spock Prime to hang around beyond XII, if he's even in XII. If the new series need such crutches, it's weak.

Why are there ships in XI with a single warp cell? Even the first warp ship experiment had two cells, as did NX-01.

I'm guessing that the creative thought behind XI wanted the new Enterprise to look really improved, having two cells. Historical reconciliations can be covered later, if necessary. Although I guess it's possible that there were graphic novels or other material that had single-cell starships prior to XI.

In this altered time line / universe, the Battleship USS Constellation NCC 0511 is exploded in the Doomsday machine as in TOS but it does not work.

Part of why Prime knows he needs to vamoose is because what worked in his timeline / universe does not work here, and in fact billions of people died on Vulcan and Rigel for the only logical conclusion (the only difference) is his presence in this time line / universe.

He seeks to sacrifice his life but Kirk demands an alternative. Enter Daniels who is acting like a rogue agent in the temporal cold war to put an end to the cold war through restoration of the fractured timelines begun in TOS the Naked time.

In the remote places like TOS City on the Edge of Forever, the people went back into their own history and did not return. And they did not effect / influence other worlds like Terrans (Earthers).

The field patch job turning Enterprise into a transwarp nacelle is to get Prime to the one singularity in the Andromeda Galaxy which will send him back to the correct "future" universe / time line.

Prime is returned and experiences what I installed somewhere previously in this thread. NCC 1701 transwarps back to Rigel to face the Doomsday machine which cripples NCC 1701. Crew is evacuated to planet Doomsday Machine is about to destroy... 1701 is set to drift into the maul of the Doomsday machine with a transwarp drive overload in progress... will it work? will it work in time to save the crew on the ill fated planet below?

There's your white knuckler.

The new (only remaining) death penalty on the books will be to fracture the time barrier again by going back or forward through it since it was discovered through improved takion technologies that people and ships that "go back in time" are actually universe hoping.  And unless they go back through a specific porthole (a singularity) the return to a foreign universe... similar in most ways with minor differences which they deemed acceptable alterations due to their presence in the past.

This effect could also explain the variations and contradictions in old scripts in every Start Trek venue.

NCC1701A replaces ill fated NCC1701 with the Korner design:

Partly expanded secondary hull to house the new transwarp design. This will open Star Trek up to extra galactic travel and future adventures.

It will also put the format back out into the final frontier mode like in the pre-warp five days and so on... In another galaxy on your own with only a chain of deep space stations between for support... a hundred thousand light years in the distance...

This format will open up Star Trek to a wider range of scripts and possibilities...
