I just watched the DVD again last night. I think its great Trek it really brings back the feel of TOS along with a new twist and enables it to continue on.
Definetly Good Trek!
I have seen it twice in the theatres and three times on DVD.

The new movie is good Trek. I may watch it again on New Years Eve. I already watched it once before on Bluray. I have the movie that has the case turning into the Enterprise.

Well unfortunately my answer to this will be quite biased, since the only other Trek films that I've seen are the TOS films, and we all know how I feel about this film compared to TOS. That's not to say that I wouldn't view it more favourably alongside the TNG films...but I'm not in a position to be able to do that yet.
So with all that said, it's my personal opinion that it's a very good film...but not a great Trek film.

I think it is both very good Trek and a very good movie. Maybe I have become so sensitized by all the Trek I have seen that I lost touch with what made me fall in love with the series all those years ago back in 1973 when I was 10.
This movie brought back some original feelings such as a sense of awe and excitement along with a sense of adventure.

I was asking if it's good TREK.
I was not asking if it's a good film.
Just go with a gut feeling on this, not what your intellect is telling you. |
And I answered that. I said I don't personally think it's great Trek.

It's ok though i still luv ya!!! ¿ |
I don't understand what you mean? I did make a gut feeling...based on how I felt about this film compared to all the other Trek films I've seen (which is surely how you decide that it's good Trek or not). I also pointed out that it's possible that I haven't seen enough Trek to be able to decide fully...but there's not a lot I can do about that right now.

Does it feel like TREK. Or does it just feel like science fiction.
I'm not saying its good or even great TREK, just does it feel like it even if it needs a lot of work. |
Well that's exactly what I said in the first place. No, compared to the other Trek films I've seen, it doesn't have the same feel to it, for me. But, as a science fiction film it's a good one. I don't know how I can be any clearer than that... Just because I don't agree with you, doesn't mean that I don't understand what you're asking you know

Let me try and be a bit clearer (and this comparison may feel like blasphemy to some, lol) I feel about STXI the same way I feel about The Phantom Menace. I considered The Phantom Menace to be a thoroughly enjoyable space adventure film...but if I tried to see it as part of the Star Wars films then it was an absolute travesty. I don't feel quite as strongly about STXI...like I've said, as a space adventure film (I'm not sure how much it's 'sci-fi' in the strictest sense) then it's an excellent one. It's only when I try to see it sitting alongside the other Trek films that I've seen that it feels completely out of place. Just my humble opinion...which it seems to become more and more of a challenge to express to people every day on this board

Well does it feel like a bad cheesy episode of TOS? ? |
Blimey Bax, I wish I'd just agreed with you now for a quiet life! No, it doesn't feel like a 'cheesy episode of TOS' in the slightest. It doesn't feel remotely like TOS to me. And it doesn't feel cheesy either (and that's a good thing, in case you were wondering) And in fact, several people on this board have spent months telling me how I shouldn't compare this film to TOS, these are new characters, new timeline, it's all different etc. And now you're asking me how much it feels like TOS! No wonder I'm confused!

I think it is VERY good Trek.
For me, Trek is about the people. This Trek was very much about the characters. The relationships, the charm, and the interactions all brought me back to the magic I used to feel watching TOS as a kid. I thought that the new actors, for the most part, captured the spirits of those characters and brought them back to life in a very believable and special way.
I also enjoyed how the writers and Abrams seemed to understand that one of the important things about Trek is that it was essentially a vehicle to show the strength of the diversity of mankind. To me, the primary theme in Trek 09 is overcoming differences and embracing diversity to conquer a great challenge. That gets to the very heart of what the original Star Trek was all about, before it got self-important and heavy-handed.
Good movie, Great Trek

I think it's good Trek and a good movie. I really thought that I would hate the whole alternate reality plot, but I loved it.

IMO, yes, STXI is good trek. Does it violate canon in the way things look and a few details? Yes, it does. But, despite that, I thought the film had the feel of classic ST. Not TNG, DS9, VOY, or ENT, but the original "Star Trek." I think Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzmann were successful in their endevor to both revitalize the franchise and ressurect the original characters, which was something I was very dubious about them doing with their film (I initially hated the idea).
As an original Star Trek fan since I was a kid, I was very happy with ST XI. I loved it.
So, I vote yes.

The story has too many plot holes and missing information to be good anything. Hell, Avatar is a masterpiece compared to this and Avatars story is very by-the-books.
