I just watched the enterprise incident for the first time, I liked it, but it also annoyed me.

First i love the romulans and wish they had been featured more in TOS.

I also enjoyed the fact they had a female commander, and Tal is probably the coolest romulan ever.

It also was a good mystery and i kept wondering whats up with kirk and what is his motive.

I was annoyed because the cloaking device seemd like it was new when it had been featured in balance of terror.

Also what was up with the klingon romulan alliance where romulans were suddenly using klingonships. Since the klingon ships apparently had warp drive, why did they even bother using the bird of pray from balance of terror, unless they fit the bird of prey with warp drive.

i am curious what you all think

The Cloak wasn't new. They knew that. It was just Starfleet gave them orders only now to go and steal one.

The Romulans had warp drive. They could not have possible left Vulcan and settled on Romulus without it. From what I understand, the Romulan ships can only travel on impulse when it's cloaked because the cloaking device consumes much power.

I had long surmised that the reason Romulans were using Klingon vessels had less to do with story telling, and everything to do with budgetary constraints.  Now I finally have the evidence to back up that theory.

If you have the Blu Ray version of TOS check out the Easter Egg hidden on disc one.  They discuss this very fact and state that there wasn't enough money to build three Romulan ships, so they came up with the idea that Romulans were piloting Klingon ships.

"With one line of dialogue we saved a lot of money."

Mystery solved.

Klingon ships in the Romulan fleet would make sense, if they both ally against the Fedration.

During WW II, the US sent a lot of Lend Lease milliitary equipment to the UK and the Soviets.

I can believe the lack of $$ for miniatures. I recently read Shatner's Star Trek Memories and he said they had even less money for Season Three that the previous seasons.

They DO act like the cloaking device is new. When the three KR ships decloak, Spock says something like "Intelligence reports the Romulans have a cloaking device." Of course, it could have been added as exposition for those viewers who hadn't seen the earlier episodes.

I beleive it's the Michael McMasters blueprints for the Romulan BoP that have that about travelling at impulse, not at warp when cloaked, because of the power drain.

Definitely makes sense, considering the distances.

The one in BOT seemed to be more of an invisibility screen rather than a true "cloaking device," even though that's what the RC called it. The one they stole in TEP was, in fact, a true cloaking device that shielded ships from both sensor and visual detection.
