I think Tuvok was a great Vulcan, though at times he could be a bit obstinate, but he was one of the better vulcans on star trek and a great security officer!

I think Tim Russ was an awesome vulcan- he's even more restrained than other vulcans because he had emotional problems as a kid, and went through extended training

The worst Vulcan ever? That's quite a statement. The worst actor who ever played a Vulcan perhaps. Tim Russ is a very average actor if Tuvok is anything to go by. I've not seen him in anything else. Somebody said 'serviceable'. That's a good phrase! Damning with faint praise.

The problem with Voyager was that it had so few worthwhile actors. The only engaging characters were 7 of 9 and the Doctor. I could watch Robert Picardo all day. Had he not been in that show - I doubt I would have watched it at all.

You have to wonder who picks the actors in these shows. Why do they select such dullards? Whatever happened to real character actors? Hollywood mainstream these days is so lacklustre ...

Tim Russ is an excellent actor and his portrayal of Tuvok was superb.

The worst actor to play a vulcan was that maquis from the two parter of Deep Space Nines second season.

Why is he so stiff? I know Vulcans are suppose to control their emotions but why do I get the feeling Russ is trying too hard. Actors and actresses are not suppose to allow the audience to see that they are acting. The act should naturally.

Nimoy plays the role of a Vulcan naturally.
Dorn acts naturally as a Klingon.

You can't tell if those two actors were acting.

I think this is true. I really never liked Tuvok. Sometimes, I really saw emotions in him, others, none. I think he is inconsistant. I like Spock.

Valid points. I also think the writers didn't know what to do with the characters. They seemed to be lacking in creativity and when they ran out of ideas, inserted another borg episode.

Tuvok followed the Vulcan standard superbly. He never showed emotion and was highly dedicated. Unlike traditional Vulcans in starfleet, he respected other races instead of looking down on them. Spock was special and rare in that he was part human, TPol because she didn't have a Vulcan figure and was not in control of her emotions, and Verlaris in that she was a traitor. He was never manipulated, when the crew tried to cut into his demeanor, he would make sharply witty remarks and not waiver. He was true to the teaching of Surak and to his wife, what more do you want from a Vulcan? He was the only one to actually act like one, and that made him refreshing that finally an alien was being defined by his alien standards, not our human ones.

I'm inclined to believe that Tim Russ is excellent as Tuvok. His actions were more like I'd expect a Vulcan to be. T'Pol completely missed the mark.

Speaking of Vulcans in general, why is it that every other time one of them gets sick or something they have to lose control of their emotions?? Pon Farr, old age, screwed up mind melds, aliens with mind control powers, traveling back in time, hippie flowers and that one certain mineral that NX-01 needs to line the hull. I understand a Vulcan's control is at the heart of their being so it maybe it makes for a good story but can't Vulcans just cough and sneeze like everyone else sometimes?? And another thing, how can you tell if Spock's half brother from the 5th movie is even going through Pon Farr??

I only liked two characters on Voyager, and Tuvok was one of them. My third fave Vulcan, behind Spock and Sarek.
