Since The Romance Thread digressed into some unpleasant arguments, another poster asked me start a TnT appreciation thread - a place to discussion the ups and downs of the relationship, the writing mistakes, the continuation of the romance in the books. . . without having to defend the the relationship's existence.

So, let's keep it all civilized and positive.

With someone on another board, I was just discussing how the mourning/hand-holding scene in Terra Prime is the best moment in the series, probably one of the top five moments in all of Trek. So, there's that.

Awesome idea Honeybee. And this is long overdue for this board. I've seen this done on another Star Trek board and their thread is titled: TnT: If The Ship is A Rockin'...Don't Come Knockin'!

I'll kick it off with just a couple of pictures and will post more as time permits. I'm hoping YANKS can make some contributions from his huge collection.

Awwwww. . . .I love that Bound scene.

It's a bit of a weird non-sequitar to that and the tension between them in Demons/Terra Prime. I think the tension was hastily added because the writers had gotten a look at the script for the episode that doesn't exist - and were trying to make sense of the nonsense in that episode.

Yes, but the ending scene in Terra Prime still was what it was; it was a gem. There was an earlier version of the Terra Prime script that IMO was even better than what we saw, but TPTB F'ed up again and changed it. I found this on another board posted by someone who bought it at an auction. The script was listed as "Preliminary", 02/08/05 be, *02/09/05 pk in the upper right corner and states "First Draft - February 7, 2005" in the lower right corner, for those wondering)

This is the way that last scene was written early on...

CUT TO:

INT. ENTERPRISE - T'POL'S QUARTERS

T'Pol is wearing Vulcan robes. She stares out the window at unmoving stars. The door BEEPS.

T'POL: Come in...

Trip ENTERS. He holds the IDIC. They both were in Sickbay when Elizabeth died, and that moment of loss is still with them.

TRIP: Phlox thought you'd...

Trip's having a hard time speaking. His eyes are red from tears. He gives the IDIC to T'Pol.

TRIP: The captain said... the, uh... delegates at the conference... they've asked about the service for... for Elizabeth...

He chokes up saying her name, recovers.

T'POL: They want to attend?

Trip nods, tries to smile, a proud parent.

TRIP: She was important...

After a few beats, Trip collects himself again.

TRIP: Phlox had something else to say. He did more tests...

T'Pol waits.

TRIP: Turns out... it wasn't genetic. There was a flaw in the cloning technique...

T'Pol's Vulcan control slips as she realizes what Trip's leading to.

T'POL: What...?

TRIP: Human DNA... Vulcan DNA... Phlox says there's no medical reason why they can't combine.
(beat)
We can have children... if we want...

T'Pol processes what Trip has said, slowly realizing that he's making a proposal...

T'POL: What do you want?

Trip takes her hand... no mystery about what he wants.

TRIP: What do you want?

T'Pol thinks, and OFF that moment of agonizing anticipation...

CUT TO:

EXT. SPACE
Enterprise crosses from the night side of Earth, to be caught in the flare of the rising sun...

FADE OUT.

As much as I love Enterprise, the writing problems were enormous and these clowns couldn't get their hands around all the conflicting signals they were sending up. It's no wonder they lost viewers. Anyway, I ignore TATV and I allow the re-launch books to take over from here.

No doubt that scene was changed because of :the abomination: - but still - we have that great moment in Terra Prime that will always exist as a non-holodecked moment.

I've been re watching the series, and I just finished "Broken Bow". I noticed this time around that it was most likely their situation that made sense for this romance to develop. There wasn't originally a sense of appropriate sentiments toward romances between crew members. T'pol was the same as Archer in that respect. With Trip it was different, because he was a more expressive and impulsive character; he was able to persist a notion of romance towards T'pol without committing character assassination.
The decon chamber is a perfect example of this truth. Trip had no reservations about getting lost in the moment, yet T'pol made sure it remained professional. However, Trips persistence broke down that barrier of professional conduct that she felt should remain.

Indeed. Those guys are (sadly) tolerant to this kind of crap.

Moving right along -

I did see that there was a little sparkle between TnT in episodes like Unexpected, Strange New World and Oasis. They were clearly playing with the whole bickering, opposites attract and then become friends dynamic. But again, I think even the most obsessive TnT shipper realizes they dropped that in the second season.

As silly as a plot contrivance the neural pressure was, I did think that worked better than the bickering - though they never dropped the bickering completely. (See North Star and Harbinger ) Two different people start to form a bond because there's no one else and they are both in a crisis situation - and attraction forms. I would have preferred if she had been teaching him to meditate or something, but then we wouldn't have all those scenes with a half-naked JB and CT.
