I like it. It has flaws, just like any other film, but its still a great movie. Some people dont like it because its not the same Trek they remember from when they were children; but things change, and it was for the better this time.

In your opinion.
Some people may dislike it for reasons other than it changing.

Best Star Trek movie ever.

One through six are boring as hell. Shame, cause TOS and it's cast is awesome. TNG movies are alright, especially Nemisis.

As deep and progressive as I want the show to be (and I hope it comes back soon), I want Star Trek movies to involve a whole bunch of stuff exploding.

Bigger ships, badder aliens and more powerful weapons...yeah, I know a few posters here who think in those terms.

It's sad.

Of course its my opinion. I can speak for only my own, so else's would it be?

Anyways, I was just pointing out what I have observed. I'm sure there are a number of reasons that some people dont like the new Trek, just as there are reasons that some do not like the older Trek films.

I agree the new movie is a good change. That does not mean previous Star Trek is bad. This is a very important thing that I believe fans must understand about change. It does not always mean for better or worse. Change indicates something is done differently but better or worse will always be subjective. And since change was needed to improve the franchise I will also call it a good change. Not all fans will agree if they like it better or worse. But there was a downward trend which Star Trek needed to turn around. I feel it was a good change for the franchise and I also like the direction they chose.

Not necessarily. It's just the audience for the show and the audience for the movies are two different demographics. And films such as Star Wars and Star Trek 11 always prove to be more successful than movies such as Star Trek 1-6. Which is great, cause it gives money to the franchise, and hopefully it won't be long before we have another TV show which can focus more on great plots and long-term character development.

And c'mon, even the story in ST11 wasn't that bad. Little formulaic, but I still didn't expect them to destroy Vulcan, did you? And it was in the trailer... And on pure visual terms it is inarguably the greatest Star Trek production ever. On par with Star Wars for once...

But Avatar blows every other movie in existence out of the water. Just had to mention it...

I don't agree that the audience for the show and the audience for the movies are two different demographics. They overlap surely, which is why there is such an argument going on.

I'd actually say that there are about 4 differnent democraphics that saw Trek 11.

18-24
25-34
35-44
44-54

So yes, there were many demographics who saw the film, and that has alot to do with why there is debate about how faithful the film was to Trek. To say that that fans of the movie are fans of the show is flat out wrong. That takes out the number of people who have never seen an episode of Trek before the film, which is a significant number of people.
