There are many many movies that have beat Star trek at the box office. The only relevant competition with Star Trek at the box office is between itself and the other movies within the franchise.

I don't care if Bambi's Revenge beats Star Trek at the box office the only thing Trek ultimately competes with is itself. If it makes a huge profit over the cost of production that is all that matters.

Please tell me I can find you spewing your garbage on all the other 93 films messageboards on this list too.

I'm sure they'd love hearing your crap at the GI Joe and the Ice Age boards.  I'd pay good money to see you getting run out of town by Hannah Montana fans.

By your logic, just picking an arbitrary movie, Star Trek is great because it kicked the butt of Land of the Lost which didn't even make 50 mil!

Wow Star Trek sucks because Finding Nemo and Up made more money. :eyesroll:

These are all non sequitur, in a non sequitur, the conclusion can be either true or false, but the argument is fallacious because there is a disconnection between the premise and the conclusion.

VAB and ST are right.  There are plenty of films, bad films with poor reviews like this teeny-bopper Twilight (the books of which Anne Rice, the bestselling author of The Vampire Lestat and Interview with the Vampire didn't think much of, incidentally) vampire flick with a review of only 25% on RT.com.  ST had a RT.com rating of 95%.

They're two different films in two different franchises with two different audiences.  There are more teenage girls that are going to go see this lame vampire movie than ST fans.  Sad to say, but it's the truth.

It's the same reason those Disney and Pixar films do so well.  Parents take they're kids to see them.

This is really very basic elementary stuff.  This argument against XI, based on the box office of Twilight:  New Moon, is as pathetic as the previous one about the sales of toys based on ST XI as a reason to deride the film.

On the other side of the argument we have ST's huge box office, exceeding TMP's domestic total, Abrams selected as entertainer of the decade by EW, ST XI being picked as one of the best 5 films of 2009 by the National Review Board, and the film being lauded by Nicholas Meyer, Patrick Stewart, James Cameron, McG (who's Terminator:  Salvation didn't do nearly as well), and others.

You know, this guy doesn't want to really discuss any issue he is a troll by definition and wants to stir the pot and get us to react. In that he succeeded.

I think we need to stop feeding him.

This is a bit of an odd argument - because if 'JJ-Trek' is a "failure" due to not being able to beat this movie, then the entire Star Trek film franchise is a colossal, epic failure as every single one of the previous Star Trek films have also failed to beat this film, and in most cases by a far greater margin than the new Star Trek movie.

If we were to accept your argument as true for a moment and follow it's logic, then Star Trek XI being a "failure" and "getting it's butt kicked" due to not making more than Twilight: New Moon means that Star Trek: Nemesis must be the monkey king joke of the universe as it was beaten financially by Twilight: New Moon by a vastly greater margin.

Possibly, though logically dissecting his argument in a relatively calm manner can also disrupt a troll's momentum, and often ends in them destroying their original intentions and discrediting themselves further when they respond to such commentary with over the top rants, marginalising them even further.

I was going to say the same thing. Using this logic, XI is the best movie in the franchise because it made the most money, yet all the movies in the franchise are failures because they made less then New Moon.

It's really a stupid argument that says nothing about the film being good or not.
