WRT Joss Whedon:

"Revolutionary" doesn't always equal "entertaining."

The award was "entertainer of the year," not "most creative genius who makes great stuff that the majority of people don't find entertaining."

You really think that 'most people' don't find Whedon's stuff entertaining?

I think, if anything, his problem is that a lot of his stuff slips under the radar...Firefly in particular.

I'll admit that Buffy maybe aimed for a younger, more niche market, and that might have put some people off checking out his later stuff.

But I don't know how anyone could say that Firefly isn't entertaining.

It's a big dumb hero in a silly hat! It doesn't get more entertaining than that, surely!

I'm one of the biggest fans of Buffy but I honestly think Joss is a one hit wonder. ?Not one thing since Buffy has been a success for him.

I'm not a "buffy" guy, but have you seen Angel or Dollhouse?

If you liked Firefly, you can see Joss all over these 2 series.

Yes & Yes.

Liked "Angel" but it didn't have the "oomph" of Buffy.
I tried to like "Dollhouse" and like Dushku but I don't she had string enough acting skills to put off the part they way it should have been.  Amy Acker's skills IMO are far superior & more emotionally engaging.

"Firefly" bored me too tears............and I tried to watch the entire series twice and couldn't.

I don't hate Joss, I just don't think he has what it takes to be a major contender in todays market.

..but that is exactly why someone like Abrams gets "Entertainer of the Decade" over Joss because he's got both.

Oh I agree...and I wasn't saying that Abrams shouldn't have won...I guess I was just making the case for Whedon because people were saying things like "I've never heard of him" or "most people don't like his stuff"

Something inside me just has to leap to the defense of the man who created Jayne Cobb and gave him a gun called Vera!

Understood.

I think allot of folks like his stuff but I think some of us are disappointed that his work isn't as good as it could be.

Interesting. I think you're the first that didn't enjoy Firefly.

You fell asleep with Zoey on the screen?

Were her clothes on?

Then, yeah I probably did. ¿

..but seriously, there are allot of non-Firefly fans out there.  Most of us just don't post about it.  I said I didn't like "Firefly" once on TrekBBs, 5 months later folks were still b*tching at me about it.

..but seriously, I grew up on Westerns.  Shane, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, so I expected allot more gun play on "Firefly".  When I heard "space western", I thought cool like Han Solo or "Westworld".  Nope, it wasn't like that either.

So "Firefly" didn't deliver IMO of what a space western should be.
