Our captain said Punch it in the commercial as the signiture.

Usually, when there doing that, there creating a movie for morons.

Engage! was much better.  its even, but committing to a action.  Punch it is dirivitive for a moron who is going bat out of hell without thought.

And I can can tell a lot from those few seconds.  the captain doesn't care one bit.  Not a thoughtful.  too gung ho.  Some gung ho works out.  But in real life.  A man like that is likely to get everyone killed.

And while Kirk from the OS. sometimes would go off on a bent hell thing, he still eventually would SLOW down and think some.  Although he didn't deal with complicated situations, he STILL had the knolledge level to deal with the situation.  Which none of them were thankfully hard.

Then with Picard, sometimes too thoughtful to take a action.  granted I preffured him better.

Then jainway on Voyager...we got jainway with her issues.  It was the Doc, Tuvok, seven, Tom Paris, Kes, & tores that saved the series.

But with the 11th movie we got air space.

A CLEAR moron movie.  for MORONS.  too many of them.

Star Trek, used to be before the 11th movie, something interesting, but entertaining that had a purpous OTHER THAN FILLING AIR SPACE.

Which alls the 11th movie does.  Granted, sometimes every once and awhile I like watching something that is just filling and relaxing.  I got Beavis and Buthead for that, or the Simpsons.

There just cartoons.  thats all those will ever be.

Now I aint going to lower myself to lows such as Family Guy or Futurama...Which are terrible.

But, those shows are NOT the point.

Star Trek is the point.

Star Trek, is supposed to be the serous, but entertaining show.

LEAVE IT THAT WAY.

Great, if they only create that 1 movie to draw new veiwers, as a way to introduce new fans.  So they go deeper into trek.

But I suggest we proceed with the REAL trek uni.  Screw those who don't continue to watch.

The OP of this thread is an editorial rant but I wish to discuss some points. This movie was not made for morons it was made for everyone. That being said the category of everyone includes the subsets of morons and also intelligent people. To say it is made only for morons is not entirely correct. The main point is this movie can be viewed on many levels because it was made for everyone.

If someone wishes to view this only as a shallow popcorn action flick they may do so. However there are themes and deeper issues which are explored in the story and characters. In this way the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." If someone believes this movie was made for morons this is their choice however there are deeper meanings in this movie which can be analyzed and discussed. This movie received very good ratings and reviews which sometimes include a detailed analysis of these themes. It also includes action and humor which add to the entertainment value.

Now we can discuss the phrase "Punch it" what does it mean. Why did they not use "Engage?" One reason is because that phrase was already said by Kirk and popularized by Picard. It was used other times in every spin off series. Other phrases have been used but "Punch it" was something unique for Pike and this movie.

Now we can discuss the meaning of "Punch it." Does it imply a "look before you leap" sensibility? Yes in fact that is one of the qualities mentioned by Pike which he believes Starfleet is currently lacking. This was part of the spirit which Captain Kirk always brought to Star Trek. This is why Pike says it directly to Kirk in the movie. So I agree that "Punch it" implies this meaning but I see it in a positive way and you are seeing it as negative. Pike represents part of the inspiration for Kirk.

You agree Kirk has this quality and you wish he would slow down to figure out a problem. He does exactly this in the movie and the whole crew works together to determine a plan. You also mention a few points that Next Generation and Voyager also had issues but when the new movie addresses these weaknesses you say it is for morons?

I agree that Star Trek is meant to be a serious and entertaining show but it possesses even more qualities. It is also funny, action packed, mysterious, suspenseful, colorful, imaginative, positive, hopeful, allegorical, and meaningful. You are correct the 1st movie was made partly to gain new viewers because it was made for everyone. With the sequel they do wish to present an even more meaningful adventure for the new and existing fans. I also agree with your phrase "Screw those who don't continue to watch" but in a different context. Basically if someone does not wish to embrace what is presented it is their choice.
