If Back to the Future is using ST's time rules

Than when they leave julie (her name?) on the swing, she will be left behind in that timeline, ahh!!!
while they go into the new timeline.

Good point about Back to the Future. Leaving her seemed a bit cold to me at the time, leaving her in that time line or not. That wasn't a very safe neighborhood. I need to watch that again.

It may not be that Trek uses that time travel concept. It seemed during TOS that there was a single timeline to deal with. With TNG, it got more complex with certain episodes, including the finale. However Yesterday's Enterprise seems to be a return to the TOS concept.

How to reconcile all this is beyond me. What I'm trying to find out is whether there's a prevailing time travel school of thought that would preserve the characters and events of TNG, DS9, and Voyager, plus the future of that 24th Century beyond the time of those series.

It only seems to be 1 timeline involved, because we (the viewers) are following the time taveller.

he or she, is now in a new timeline, that appears to be changed by their actions or inactions.
But that doesn't mean that's the only timeline. We just go where the camera go.

Like if we leave the house, & enter a new environment, that does not mean the house dissapears and no longer exists.

Well, to some people that is exactly what happens in life, lol
