I really liked them.
They took my mind off the script.

1 or 2 yeah. It would make sense, sometimes it would look cool. But a flare every few seconds? Give me a break. Really annoying on the DVD.

If the director admits it was too much, dont you think the debate is over? C'mon people.

Abrams says," The future is so bright it can't be contained in the frame."

What a douchebag. HAHA What does that even mean? If you can't portray action and a sense of a living breathing environment on screen without pointing a flashlight at a camera every 2 seconds, why are you making movies?

I liked the flares. I hope that in the next movie he tones it down some - but only just a little

They don't bother me too much, but I wouldn't mind if there were less of them. And I think that is something he will do in the next movie.

Yes I also like the lens flares but agree they can be toned down for the next movie. And I do not agree with the comments that this director "can't portray action and a sense of a living breathing environment on screen without pointing a flashlight at a camera every 2 seconds." There is much going on in the movie besides the lens flares and they are only an "element" used during the movie. There is much meaningful action and there is a sense of a living breathing environment on screen. I feel the lens flares add to this.

Some implied meanings for element.
1. a component or constituent of a whole or one of the parts into which a whole may be resolved by analysis:
3. a natural habitat, sphere of activity, environment, etc.

I honestly didn't notice them until people started pointing them out.  Personally in my opinion its just people trying to find something to whine about, same with everything else in the world.
