Here's the final scene written for William Shatner as Kirk by Orci and Kurtzmann.  It wasn't presented to Shatner because they thought he wouldn't be intrested since it's essentially a cameo.  Anyway, I really liked it.

wow. that was really very good. It may have been a 'cameo', but ####, that would have left an imprint.

But, i'm still crazy happy with the film we got :)

What the hell? That would've worked wicked... why wasn't that in the end??

I kinda wish I didn't read this now... it will be remembered as the ending that could've been, but never was...

Actually that would have been a very good scene

i think it would have been a very moving scene for TOS fans

In fact, if they filmed this and put into the movie, it would probably be the best scene in the whole movie, that and the opening scene

But when would that holographic message have been recorded?

Was it before Kirk went on the maiden voyage of the enterprise B in Star Trek Generations

Kirk made that message and then went on board the enterprise B?

It was probably for the best that they didn't do the scene because I don't think a "Captain Kirk cameo" would work and fans would probably want more of Shatner

Maybe Shatner will post a youtube video in response and will actually read the message himself

It was ok in all honesty. Didn't really offer anything to the movie other than yet ANOTHER nod to the fans. Shat probably would have wanted 20 million just to do those few lines.

The scene sounds a little much.  It could have been written better with less dialog from Shatner.  I do like how the movie ended with the New Crew of the Enterprise setting off on their first official voyage together with the young Kirk taking the chair.  A short hologram with Kirks Emotional Birth Day message ending with something like "Since those first days on the bridge we have experienced more together than most could ever dream of.  I hope to see you again soon old friend." would have been nice.

Of course that could easily be classified as a cameo but D a m n it Jim!
