As excited as I am about the movie, I'll be checking out Target and Best Buy tomorrow afternoon (in the same parking lot thankfully) instead.
No midnight purchasing for me. I'll be asleep.

I bought mine this morning when the store opened at 10am. There was actually a line of people at the door, and everyone went straight to the 4-sided Trek display.
I bought the 3-disk bluray. I must say, I'm pretty disappointed in the packaging. It kind of sucks. I was hoping it would be a bit more sleek and functional. All of Paramount's packaging for Star Trek has been kind of weak, though.
Can't wait to get home and fire that bad boy up in the home theater...!!!

I think the US got this artwork because it is more bold and minimal. It also uses the same traditional font in black and white which can symbolize starting fresh. Not everyone prefers this style but I like the choice. It also matches the packaging and displays. I got the limited edition from Target with the USS Enterprise replica dvd holder and I am a very happy camper. ¿ ¿

It is a stand up replica and it is very inexpensive! It looks very good and it is stable with good quality. I am very impressed this is the best dvd case I ever owned in my life. Here is a video of it: http://vimeo.com/7456693

| Quote (starbase63 @ Nov. 17 2009, 1:06 pm) | I have no idea why they stuck with artwork reminiscent of the ugly US theatre poster rather than the artwork used for some of the overseas releases...
I mean, we got this hack piece:

The UK, Australia, Germany, etc. got this:

Why, Paramount, why??

It actually makes sense if you think about it. ¿It's not the "greatest" design by any means, however, with it being a predominantly light cover then it's going to easily stick out against the other darker moody DVD colors. ¿You won't have to "look for it" because it will pop right out. And what in the world could Paramount gain by having a DVD pop out at a potentially unsuspecting buyer? Just some thought.

This is also true and it does stand out. There is also the meaning of what is a "blank slate." One of the themes with this movie is there is time travel and a new alternate reality. Having only white for a background can indicate that it is like a blank slate where everything is starting from a new point.

You are very welcome. ViceAdmBaxter and some others brought it to my attention as only available at Target. I am very thankful for everyone discussing this and I wish to pass on this message. Run to Target!

I'm glad to hear that. Mainly because the packaging for the series is some of the worst I have ever seen in my life.
