It's the same story from the first MU anthology, but has been fleshed out into a full blown novel.

^ Specifically, I more than doubled its word count from the original version, from 45,000 words to 92,000. Also, to mesh the new material with the original material, I made some subtle edits and adjustments that I think improve the work overall.

The book is scheduled to go on sale in the last week of December 2009, but it might be available from some online retailers a week or two earlier than that.

I wonder, do you consider this a "Director's Cut"?

^ No, not really.  It's not as if I'm restoring material that had been cut from my original version, which is usually what is implied by "director's cut."   This is simply an expansion of a shorter work into a longer one.  I'm not sure it has an exact analog in film/TV parlance.

Is the MU series going to become full novels from now on, or will it go back to the short story/novella format?

I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to this one, your original was a cracking good read.

^ I have absolutely no idea what the future holds for Star Trek novels in general nor the Mirror Universe titles in particular. We'll just have to wait and see.
