I also do not believe that Khan should be brought back. My reasons are that I felt like Star Trek II played him so well that it would be difficult to recapture the intensity of that actor's portrayal of him. ?I worry that a new actor would be set up for failure in the attempt to portray Khan.

They recast the entire crew with great success. It can be said that at the onset they were setting up Pine, Quinto, Urban and all the others for failure when compared to the great and iconic performances of Shatner, Nimoy, Kelley and all the original actors. Heck they even had Quinto and Nimoy playing Spock! And that worked great!

To put it simply, IMHO, if it worked with Heath Ledger's Joker then the right actor will work with Khan. But I will say that is if, and only if, the story is fresh, new and exciting, not just a rehash of "Space Seed' or TWOK.

How long have you been a fan? ?My thoughts for the comments section: tell how long you've been a fan and then what movie direction you'd like to see for Trek XII. I'm simply curious to see the pattern between length of time as a fan and preference for the next movie.

I have been a fan for..So long I forgot..
What I want for the next movie is Paramount to (they won't do it) FIRE that fathead JJ Abrams and those two flaks Orci and Kurztman and get back to real Star Trek like TNG and DS9 with some persons from VOYAGER,
Otherwise I won't go see the movie.
P.S Star Trek is dead
P.S Welcome to the Boards. ;)

When you use words like "fathead" you're pretty much dating yourself to under 10 years of age.

EDIT: Oh yeah.. I was born in 1974 and been watching trek reruns with my dad since i was at least 2. (My earliest recolection) So, id say i've been a fan for about 33 years. Since i am aware of the fact that Star Trek is just entertainment, im completely ok with a rehash of old material as long as it's done well. If they can come up with completely original content, that's cool too. But what would be really awesome is now that they have an alternate timeline to work with would be rehashing old characters with new storylines. In fact, i would go as far as to say i wouldn't mind seeing Khan in the next film and have the writers come up with a completely different scenario for him and kirk's interaction. Maybe make them more the same age so that they can really kick up the action with a classic kirk/foe hand to hand fight scene. Maybe even have an updated version of Trek fight music...... But that's just me.

I've been aware of Star Trek since ST:TMP release, but didn't become a fan until seeing Star Trek IV: Voyage Home and went back to catch up on all movies. ¿So aware for 30 years and fan for 23 years.

I like the depth of the stories of many TV episodes over the years. But I also love serious action films and always wish Star Trek have more. I care more about character development, especially from the beginning of a super hero or a legend. That's why ST XI is great in that sense: a true insights into young Kirk and Spock, albeit under a different time-line and less ideal circumstances.

Like MirrorGirl compared to different courses of a meal. I actually think ST XI is appetizer and not dessert. It wets our appetite ready for a main course(s). ?I think TMP was appetizer, then main courses TWOK and TSFS, and TVH was dessert.

So to get to answer the second half of the question: I like JJ very direct to say that with characters and relationships defined, it's time to get serious for ST XII.

One thing great about Star Trek franchise is with the 700+ TV episodes and 11 silver screen films, its plenty to satisfy a diverse group of fans.?No fan is molded into one form (I hope not at for Star Trek after success of ST XI), and all Star Trek shows should not be stereotyped into one track mind kind of show. There is something for everyone! Those that endlessly complaining are acting like spoiled 7-year old brats that are ?care about they get their candy, and not understanding their parents have to make money to buy candies.

I always liked Star Trek but it was a peripheral interest. Only in recent years did I become a very big fan.

My first clear memory watching Star Trek was seeing Best of Both Worlds, Part I and Part II when II originally aired in 1990. My father used to be a big Trekkie. He would watch the original run TNG episode on Sunday nights on Fox 50 here in Detroit, and then the following Sunday he would let us kids (I was 6, my brother 9) watch the re-air at 12PM after we got out of our Sunday-best.

That is, if the episode was appropriate. For instance, he had a problem with the Klingon story-lines because they were too violent. Take Reunion, for instace. We see K'Helar bloodied at the end of the episode. We then see Worf throw a bat'leth through Duras's chest. He wouldn't let his kids watch that kind of stuff. ¿

I didn't understand most of it until I was about 8-years-old. My father had played catch-up with me telling me that TNG was a spin-off. My aunt used Unification to introduce me to the Original Series, but TNG is what I grew up on.

By the time I was 10, I was all over Trek. I saw Generations on opening day, I watched TNG's final season and all the press clippings I could find.

I would like to see the Enterprise crew explore something XII. We need a problem and that is necessary for all drama, but it should be a Trek-like story. I don't have anything specific I want to see. But I don't want to see a humanoid villian of a warrior race trying to destroy earth, the Federation, or the Enterprise. I want there to be a mystery--like with The Chase, Encounter at Farpoint, etc.

I was also like this except I also watched some next Generation and some Voyager. I saw mostly all Star Trek movies in the theater and on video. Now I am a big fan of all the shows and movies. Some are better and some are worse but I like all Star Trek.
