OMG, seriously, people?

Here's why the new ship is bigger:

1.) "Our movie is bigger and better than those before it!"  I call this the "Texas Mindset" (and I can call it that 'cause I am a Texan).  Thing is, size isn't always the determining factor.  Actually, in space, the bigger something is, the more fuel you'd require to move it, so size would really be a detriment in space.

2.) Instead of actually building a set for Main Engineering, the production team used a brewery.  (Ever notice the lights in the background are squarish and set like high-up windows in the wall?  Those are windows.  That's why - in the final scene, where Scotty yells at Keenser to "get down" from something in Main Engineering that he has climbed upon - the lighting looks like natural sunlight.  It probably is.)  The size of the brewery didn't fit with the size of Main Engineering as shown in the original "blueprints" for the ship that ILM came up with, so rather than try to, I don't know, disguise that fact digitally (since that would require more effort), they took the lazy route and upscaled the entire model.  Instead of just building an actual set for Main Engineering or just fudging the numbers ("Just repeat to yourself, 'It's just a show, I should really just relax!'"), they blew up the size/proportions of the new Enterprise instead.  Seriously, the thing dwarfs even the Galaxy Class!  Can you say, "Ludicrous"?  C'mon, say it with me, kids!

So, there.  There's the reason why the new Enterprise is larger than the old one: it's because they used a brewery for Main Engineering.  You can make up whatever non-canon in-universe theories you'd like - believe me, I have tried - but in the end, it comes down to, "We're lazy filmmakers!"

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A "FRIENDLY" POINT. YOU ARE FORGETTING THAT THE NEWEST DESIGN IS IN AN ALTERNATE REALITY OR DIFFERENT TIMELINE IF YOU WILL. THERE MAY BE A SIZE DIFFERENTIAL IN EACH TIME LINE. IF YOU GO BACK TO THE EPISODE "MIRROR MIRROR" THE 2 ENTERPRISES WERE DIFFERENT SLIGHTLY IN  SIZE. AND THE PRODUCERS EVEN SAID THEY WERE. THEY USED 2 DIFERENT MODELS. 1 WAS BIGGER.
