Interestingly, in one of the drafts for STAR TREK II,
they were going to have "Bones" fall for a much younger
woman! That would've killed the franchise, for sure! Even
in the series, he had those bags under his eyes ... so, I
pose it to you, that there was never any hype about "Bones"
as a sexual being. Having him "asexual" seemed to be the
preference of the series, for the most part. And the fans!

Who would've wanted to see TOS "Bones"
getting his freak on with a long-haired
lovely? Would his "O" faces have boosted
ratings? I doubt it, most sincerely. By
rights, it should've been Chekov, being
the youngest man, who got the most girls.

But that fake accent and all of that hair
(what was he hiding in there ... candy?),
perhaps worked against him. Scott wore
plaid skirts and loved scotch. Spock only
did it once, every 7 years, so that leaves
us with Kirk to get all the ladies. And he
certainly had his fill ...

DeForest Kelly is rolling over in his grave just at the thought of this nonsence. In fact anyone that thought that Bones is gay is two cent shy of, well, two cents. first off he was divorced and had a daughter. second, though not on the scale of Kirk, he did have his fair share of women during the run of TOS.

Plenty of gay men out there in the real world who have been married (to a woman) and who have children so that argument doesn't discount the possibility in the least.

obviously you didn't read my comment all the way, as i also pointed out that McCoy was a bit of a ladies man in his own right during the run of TOS.

Bones, in the later movies, while frighteningly thin and adorned with his new,
signature cravat, looks like he could've been played by actor Don Knotts -
should accident have befallen DeForest Kelly.

Hey, how about a new series spin-off: Star Trek: Three’s Company?
Don Knotts would play the retired "Bones" McCoy, now manager of a Space Apartment Complex.
Two humanoid females would be looking for a 3rd roommate. But rules forbid species that can
cross-reproduce from living together. So a hot-blooded, horny Romulan is disguised as a, uh,
Arcturian, a species that asexually reproduces by cell-division. Hilarity ensues.
