Firstly, when did they say they'd reactivated McCoy?

Kirks and the rest of his command crew was said to be retiring after the events of "The Undiscovered country"

Info mentioned in both "Generations" TNG episode "Relics" would indicate this was true.

Kirk retired,Scotty retired,Checov retired.....theres no reason to assume the rest of the crew didnt follow suite with their plans to retire.

And at the end of "TUC" McCoy held the rank of "COMMANDER".

But by the time he was 137 he was an Admiral.

Logic dictates that he must have been re-activated to make it past commander.

Secondly it the second time he was reactivated.

He was re-activated at the begining of TMP.

Secondly, show me where the writer says he didn't intend for it to appear on screen.

That is why the evidence is there. McCoy is not an Admiral when he says they are retiring but he returns as an Admiral in the Next Generation.

Basically you are choosing not to find an explanation. There is nothing wrong with this but there is always a possible explanation for anything.

No you are mistaking my point. You can make up anything to justify anything in all Star Trek. Dream the impossible my friend.

Yeah, he retires in his 60s.

And I've no real problem with his returning at some point, but he's retired again in 2364, right.

That's still a pretty big leap to having an 80 year old former presidnet Archer return to active duty for the next 80 odd years!

None of that seemed to make any sence.

The first time McCoy retired was around the year 2269/70 at about the age of 45

He was reactivated 2272 at the age of 47

He retires again in 2293 at the age of 66

At some point he's reactivated again and remains in service till at least 2364 at the age of 137.As far as we know he still hasnt retired again.

As far as we know archer retired in the late 2160's, was press of the UFP between 2184 and 2192 which puts him at the age of 80.

Nero's incursion could have forced Archer back into service at around the age of 110 and he could have remained in service till he died.

By the time he met Scotty he would have been around 150's or a bit more....which BTW isint much older then when he died in the original timeline at his mid 140's.

So as far as we know McCoy was an admiral till at least almost 140 years old and Archer was one till at least his mid 150's.

Its not really that much of an age difference.

This is another one of many valid explanations you give so far. And we know there is an explanation because it happens that Scotty calls him Admiral Archer on screen. Therefore we know there must be a plausible in universe reason for this. Even if he just decides to call him Admiral instead of President this is a valid reason. It does not even need to be explained.

Exactly.

In the long run it could all be an issue of personal prefrance of either Archer or Scotty.
