Which Star Trek Universe Is The Real One?

I'm still confused about the new Star Trek movie and the past 40 years of Star Trek...

If the new movie somehow created an ALTERNATE Universe, or an ALTERNATE timeline, which universe is the real one?

Is it the one we've known for the past 40 years, or is it the new one?

Or are both those universes supposed to be the REAL one?

So we know that at least one version of Kirk is dead...the one we've known for over 40 years. But this newest universe Kirk...is he also the REAL Kirk, just from an alternate universe?

And, this newest Alternate Universe Kirk will not necessarily die on Veridian III?

Since Star Trek is fiction both Universes within this fictitious Universe are as real as the other.

if you mean canon universe - it would be Star Trek 2009.  All of TOS, TNG, Voyager, DS9 etc is no longer valid and considered obsolete since Nero went back in time and changed everything so nothing happened the way it did.  Sure there will be a Benjamin Sisko but its all different now.

There is the prime (original) universe. But there are many different ones:

Starting with XI, going to "Yesterday's Enterprise", to the Mirror Universe (featured in several episodes), to all the possible (and impossible) alternate universes throughout TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT.

They all share one common aspect: They originated in the prime timeline.

So you could call it (TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) the "real" universe for that matter.

I'm so confused, I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy any Star Trek anymore. All my DVDs are now blank and I have no recollection of anything that happened before May this year. It's a huge problem

With fans accepting that going back in time doesn't alter Trek but creates a new timeline, then really, Star Trek has never had a 'real' (real in the fictional sense... it makes sense to me :p) Trek universe for a long time.

The way I look at it is that the new timeline is as 'REAL' as the original timeline (real in the fictional sense... I know Star Trek isn't real :p)

They are all the real time line! You can see in Star Trek The Next Generation "Parallels!" This will explain it all.

The Eugenics war didn't happen either. I recall nothing from 1993 to 1996 of a quarter of the world being ruled by Khan Noonien Singh who looks strangely like Roarke in "Fanatsy Island".

I'd like to know who that is supposed to be on the far left of the other Captains...if it's supposed to be Kirk, why is he wearing Red and why does he have brown hair?  :whatthe:

It's obviously Kirk. The cartoon just uses the design from the movies(TWOK and onwards) rather than from the TOS series.

I always thought Kirk's tou...err... hair was brown. What color is it supposed to be then?
