Hey, so I thought it would be cool to talk about who we think were the best actors in the all the series.' ¿Pointing out scenes, episodes and characters played (some play many) would also enhance the discussion. ¿These can be part of the title cast, or guest stars, as long as they have a noteworthy performance at some point.

I'll start...

Hmmm... I'll just do one, so we can get the ball rolling...

Andrew Robinson - I've mentioned before that I think he is one of the best (if not THE best) actors to appear in any series. ¿You can point to any number of episodes to demonstrate that (forgive me my lack of knowledge of ep. titles in DS9, I haven't gotten them in my head yet). ¿The one where he's trapped in the prison with Worf and he has to crawl into the wall and send a message - so good. ¿The later ones where he starts having panic attacks... The one where he's working with Dukat (I love that still of them standing beside eachother with phasers and Garak is smiling his creepy smile and Dukat looks like he's going to puke. ¿(Also, 'the boy who cried wolf' discussion with Julian is fantastic)).

K, that's my input - I'm rather a neophyte when it comes to DS9, so your knowledge is far superior to mine, so please feel free to point out more specifics with Andrew Robinson, or to talk about other actors you thought were superb.

Avery Brooks as Benjamin Sisko. some of his best episodes were Emissary, The Way of the Warrior, Apocalypse Rising, and Trials and Tribble-ations.

William Shatner as Captain Kirk. Some of his best episodes were Balance of Terror, Court Marshall, the City on the Edge of Forever, Space Seed.

They are others, but I'll save them for another post...

1. Andrew J Robinson- Absolutely the most brilliant actor in Star Trek. Although he wasn't a main character, he made all his scenes entertaining.

2. Jeffrey Combs/Patrick Stewart- Jeffrey Combs' ability to play three different characters (Weyoun, Brunt, Shran) was impressive, and his ability to make two of them enjoyable (Weyoun, Shran) was even better.  Patrick Stewart, I'm sorry to say, would be number two if the writers had made him never get angry. When Picard gets angry, Stewart overacts. But the rest of the time (usually), Picard is a deep, well played character.

3. Kate Mulgrew- The only good actor on Voyager, except maybe the doctor.

4. Armin Shimerman/Rene Auberjonois- These two did a miraculous job as Odo and Quark. They made DS9's first 3 seasons worthwhile.

5. William Shatner- As John Larroquette said, "You have to underplay a scene with William Shatner, because if you try to match him, you'll both end up eating the pillows."

Worst actors:

1. William Shatner- As John Larroquette said, "You have to underplay a scene with William Shatner, because if you try to match him, you'll both end up eating the pillows."

2. Tim Russ- The most boring actor I have ever seen.

3. Nana Visitor- Never allow her to fake laugh, Ever. She was OK sometimes, but mostly she was a bad actor.

4. Garret Wang- Three words for him: Wooden. Wooden. Wooden.

5. Michael Dorn- Worf is the most overacted part besides Kirk.

This topic could be reposted in the general discussions category. Might get more discussion.

I have to disagree with you on William Shatner. Have you seen the TOS episodes that I listed above where is acting was great?

Yes I have. That's why he's number five on the "best" list", and for some other episodes, he's on the "worst" list. I love William Shatner. he's my favorite actor. he was sensational as "Denny Crane" on Boston Legal. Shatner is really undefinable. So he's good and bad.

Andrew Robinson is good. But honestly I'm sure who I would say is "best." Just about everyone has their moments, I think.

I will add Robert Picardo from Voyager - I think he does a stellar job as the character slowly develops more complexity, more lifelike characteristics and becomes a person by all measures and a hologram no more.  That ark of acting is quite good I will say.

Maybe I'll throw in some worst too...

Avery Brooks - Overacting is his problem, but the man commands respect and his voice is amazing.

Anthony Travis (Enterprise) - man, I could not stand to watch that guy act, he was TERRIBLE (played Travis Mayweather)... Maybe part of the problem is that the writers did not do much with that character, but I never believed a word the guy said.

Andrew Robinson did the best job on Star Trek. Closely followed by Patrick Stewart.

Patrick Stewart was good too. He's one of the only ones who didn't make me cringe in what is arguably my least-est fave episode of all time, so that's saying something! Although I'd also have to say that I'm not sure Andrew Robinson had a bad moment either. (Although I do still think almost everyone had their really good moments too.)

....And in some cases the stand-out performances could well have also had something to do with the characters they portrayed or the scenes they were in etc.

Oooh, I've gotta disagree with TheDriver, I thought Nana Visitor was often frighteningly bad... as Kira, as the intendent, whatever.... not always, but sometimes it was hella cringeworthy...

I agree with Shimmerman and Coombs (one of my other favourites for sure!;)...

I agree that Nana had several cringe-worthy moments during the series, but she is actually a fantastic actress, and there were plenty of other moments that she had ("Duet", "Wrongs Darker..." and "Covenant" just to name a few) that totally outweigh the cringe-worthy moments. There were several times during my viewing of the series where I said to myself, "####, she's sooooo good."

Rosalind Chao was superb in "The Assignment" and hilarious in the episode where O'Brien and Kira become attracted to one another. She's underrated in my opinion.

The jury is still out on Louise Fletcher. I know she's an Academy Award winner, but there were times where her delivery was just so flat and unanimated...I'm still trying to figure out if that was on purpose. Regardless, she did make me love to hate her.

As far as the boys, there's no denying the uber-talent of Andy Robinson and Jeffrey Combs. Probably the best actors in the whole series and they weren't even regulars.

Also Rene Auberjonois...and sometimes Alexander Siddig when he wasn't being too preachy (but I guess that's really the writer's fault - Bashir is actually my fav character)

Everyone is great in their own way, just some more than others, but there isn't anyone that I don't enjoy. Ezri made me cringe at first and so did Rom and Nog...but they grew on me.

Ezri was actually very good. Her problem was that she was "replacing" a character that had been on for 6 years. Always hard. Another one of the best actors: Marc Alaimo. He had the best evil voice. While "The female changeling" (Salome Jens) didn't have much emotional range, that was the point of her character, so, it's OK.

Another worst actor: Casey Biggs (Legate Damar). He was very unbelievable.

The only candidates for "bad actor" on DS9 would have to be...

- Chase Masterson
- Terry Farrell

And honestly? I don't think either of them was really all that bad.

Also, please keep in mind this thread is about "best actors," not "favorite characters."

My favorites on DS9 would probably include Bashir, Sisko, and Martok. But I just can't bring myself to nominate Siddig, Brooks, and Hertzler as some of the show's best actors. (Certainly not above the others I've already listed.)
