The internal arrangement of the warp nacelle is pretty close to what Drexler designed back in the 70s for The Star Trek Poster Book, on which he was a staff member.

Much of the deck arrangements jive with the Franz Joseph blueprints of the same period.

:logical:

Of course they do. For some reason I think it may also be based on a design for the Star Trek RPG by FASA in the early to mid 80's.

That was the first time I had seen one that showed aft phaser banks as part of the design-featured for the first time on screen in ''Mirror Darkly,P. II'' I'd always felt that the Constitution Class was weakened by not having such an offensive capability, at least, TOS never hinted at that or showed it, but, one could assume that it came during the 5-year run of Enterprise/Kirk as a general class upgrade that Defiant got, to be sure.

Actually; most star ships are designed for frontal attacks, that’s why no ship showed any rear heavy weapons until they started making the movies. The Klingon’s D7 always had more phasers than the constitution class, but most of theirs were more for defensive.

Death is a fact of life, you can't have one with out the other.
