okay guys here one that i am sure to get everyone thinking. Generally UFO's are consider to be nonsense, the raving of the insane and wack jobs, or even hoaxes. Meanwhile scientists ponder the Fermi paradox. For those who donot know what the Fermi Paradox is, check out the following: http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_webl....ic.htmlOkay here my question, why would so many scientists, and intelligent people not make the connection that there may just be a link between Fermi's paradox and UFO's. With a 1.8 gigayear lead in technology, doubts about the abilities of other civilization spanning 1000's of ly to visit earth disappear. Traveling here would be as difficult for them as it is for us to hop into a car and drive to nearest wildlife preserve or Zoo. Could all the crazy things that ufo believers say be some outer space version of a kid holding a magnifying glass and frying ants or tying cans to tail of stray cats. The fact that with latest CGI software we have alot of people mudding the water, but in the light of events such as the Pheonix lights, or even the whole siege of Washington DC , back in 1952 by flotilla of UFO (Where actual radar signing along with fighter pilots accounts of chasing actual objects), along with release of Miltary files from England, Sweden, Chile and Brasile, why don't we have ton of real scientist looking into the matter instead of a brunch of yahoo's on Sci Fi network. If UFO's are real and are craft from extraterrials, would we really have a Fermi Paradox? What would the behavior of Aliens that Contactee's report indicate about them? Are we some kind of cheap entertainment for a gigayears old civilization? What do you guys think?

I think that earth is the "Big Brother" show of the galaxy. ¿We are a species that separates ourselves based on a lot of stupid excuses, and there is no real common goal as a result. I think it would be more likely that we will make first contact when us a species smarten up and get our act together.
I look at this situation like walking through central park in NYC. There are a lot of people traveling in their own way, not talking and or rarely seeing anyone. Those are the other advanced species in the galaxy. But eventually they come to an area, where they see a crazy homeless guy sitting on a bench punching himself in the face. The guy doesn't see them, so they back away, hide, and watch for a few minutes. The homeless keeps punching himself in the face and then calls out to see if anyone is out there. The situation is a little frightening and funny. But it is safer to avoid that homeless guy then walking by him and risk having him jump at you for some change.
However, one may find another homeless man, standing on a bridge, enjoying the view, not bothering anyone. At peace and content. A person can walk by him and the homeless man may choose to say a polite hi, or not, leaving the option for first contact in the hands of someone in a better condition than he is. However, if it happens or not is of no importance to the homeless man. He's gotten by so far and will continue to do so at his own pace. He won't refuse help if offered, but he won't harm or disturb anyone to get help either. That action shows intellegence, respect and compassion to the others around him.
In other words, I see it as: It's not about who needs more help/contact, it's about wether one deserves help/contact.
Where do you think we stand on that scale?

Well It seem we are the dangerous homeless persons. Especially in light of miltary report of 50 and testimonty from fighter pilots that they were instructed to shoot down UFO if possible..... kind of remind you of the scene in ID4 where the TV announce said that the authorizes would wish LA to stop taking pop shots at the Spacecraft hovering over the city.

My guess is that we're quarantined except for authorized study/experimentation.
Like tranquilizing and tagging wolves or big cats.

In the universe according to 4 0f 20 (pot-smoking, aussie baker with a D average in Maths and Science), the problem with finding other intelligent life is distance.
We're definitely no starfleet as of yet, with the ability to whip around to various worlds and make love to their women, so one must ask the question, how many of these races exist per galaxy? What is the ratio of galaxies to 1.8gigayear old civilizations?
Let's study this mostly bullsh*t book i have before me from the 1970's entitled "The Science in Science Fiction". It refers to Frank Drake and Carl Sagan's 1961 equation for communicative civilizations in the galaxy. We won't go into the equation but the answer is some 100 million in the Milky Way (given you have to estimate a lot of the variables).
This seems like a lot, and it is. There should be another within 100 light years from here. But perhaps, our radio waves are unique? Or there some for of degradation of the signals by an interference we have not yet studied? For whatever reason, let's assume we won't find them until we meet them face to face.
This is where the distance comes in. I like to set sail to Alpha Centuri next weekend, who's in? Can anyone tell me how we'd do it? If you can't, don't worry, cause most of humanity can't either. So, although we fall within the 100,000,000 communicative civilizations another variable has to be added for those capable of interstellar travel. And even then, that's not satisfactory enough for zipping around to all the stars "seeking new life, and new civilizations".
We need a relativistic craft, or a ftl transport. More variables... one fast enough to have visited us, between the time it was made, and now. A 1.8gigayear old species may have invented a stargate on the otherside of the galaxy a thousand years ago, and have simply not worked their way through to us yet (maybe someone else owns some space intersecting them and us...?)
Which brings me to my next question; How many of these star hopping species are there per galaxy? I personally like to think (by comparing the Drake/Sagan equation to the observational evidence), that there's probably only thousands of communicative civilizations in the Milky Way and less than one per galaxy capable of a fast medium of space travel. Which means in the universe of 4 of 20, waiting for life to come to us is a matter of waiting for some other species to invent INTERGALACTIC travel, and wait the millions of years after it's invention that it would take for them to stumble upon the one star, in the one galaxy, that belongs to us.
So, in conclusion, in my universe the future of alien contact will be us, stumbling upon an alien world. And there we will find either some form of single celled life starting to develop, or after living for some time on a colonized world, perhaps fossils and ruins may be exhumed of a long dead civilization.

By the way, I've seen a UFO. I was real drunk, so I called everyone in the house out to come watch it. It could accelerate from a standstill, then whip across the sky, and come to a complete dead stop, inconsistent with any plane, satellite, meteorite or other sky born bright lights.
We'd been studying a star map and looking at planets. Next to Saturn, there was another light as bright as it, not on our map. It was above Brisbane City in the distance. It started accelerating toward me in Wynnum (Queenslander, y'nkow what I'm talking about, ay?), and I called everyone out. It picked up speed and stopped above us. Then it started moving up and getting less dim. At a certain height, another star started following it, and they both disappeared.
It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen, and I wish I wasn't so drunk cause it ruins the whole story, but it happened to me. I was gonna report it and see if anyone else did, but didn't know who to call. There is a car that drives around with "Paranormal Investigations Unit" on it, but seen as their number is not in the Yellow Pages, I decided they must be loons. Beside the point, Brisbane reports more UFO sightings than anywhere else in the world. One day our city was covered in a strange orange cloud and fifty were reported in one morning moving around the cloud.
Though I still don't believe in aliens zipping around our planet in flying saucers. I'm starting to think I seen another rarity in science, ball lightning. Anyone know if this stuff could appear as I described?
Please don't think I'm crazy. I do believe the above story...
