If you haven't seen the series, it will make no sense whatsoever, because of all the little backstories they complete from things mentioned in the series. I love how... (spoiler text below): | Quote | | ...John turned out to be the mysterious stranger who put Ellen Tigh on the shuttle. |

| Quote (lion_tone @ Oct. 12 2009, 2:56 pm) | To me, Trek TOS is #1 - for it's cultural impact, and its influence/inspiration. Nu-BSG is a CLOSE 2nd due to the storytelling and execution. They belong up on the mantle together.
No other TV sci-fi comes close. Not the Trek spin-offs, not B5. |
I am in total agreement with this statement. TOS is the best ever and will always remain so, it is timeless (cheese and all), but for me, who has been watching science fiction on the screen forever, even before Star Trek, it is my opinion that BSG is far and away superior science fiction drama than anything else since TOS. Sure there is alot of scenery chewing, but hey there's plenty of that in TOS. BSG is gritty, intelligent and powerful. It explores humans in a way that has been ignored by other science fiction. I agree that BSG is closer to TOS than TNG, or VOY will ever be. Starbuck, Apollo, Bill Adama and Laura Roslin are HUMANS in a deeply conflicted universe, watching them struggle with moral decisions was fascinating. And I can safely say that there was only one episode out of the whole series that I felt was below par, everything else set a standard for drama and production that has not been equalled in my opinion. I loved it all.

Just curious... Are you a fan of DS9? I only ask because everything you're saying here, Mirrorgirl, mirrors the way I feel about BSG and DS9. (Which only makes sense considering the Ron Moore connection...)

I personally grew too tired of the overly plodding series story. found the series to have gotten so boring, I didn't not even finish it. BSG may have been popular with some sci fi people, but not me.
