>Insurrection is the worst film, period. Nemesis is also quite bad, film-wise, as is Generations. In terms of worst "star trek film..." Star Trek (2009) probably takes the cake. Even at their worst, drivel like Generations and Insurrection and even Nemesis tried to explore broader themes than "lets blow crap up." ST2009, however, makes no pretense at depth, and would be a completely forgettable film if not for the Star Trek title.

Absolutely. How did you know I was going to say that?

I would not throw to many rocks at Trek XI.

Trek I was not the best girl at the prom

in fact her dress was only pinned.

It was not until the Directors cut that the old gal was decent.

But to me both films have something in common

they got the band back together and on stage.

Now I hope Trek XII is as good as Trek II

It is not JJ's fault Picard left Borg in Earth's past and screwed up the time-line

Admittedly, I threw rocks. Sorry about that. I've seen it recently, and am still ticked at the death of Data. Well, not really ticked, but disappointed. It was entertaining, if nothing else. To me, the first movie felt the most awkward. Too many beauty shots of the Enterprise made for a slooooooooooooooooooow start. But see, they gave more respect to the Enterprise in the first movie than they did to Data in Nemesis. *pokes at it with a stick*

Admittedly, I am a barbarian. As such, I do not belong here. -- "It was far easier for you as civilized men to behave like barbarians than it was for them as barbarians to behave like civilized men." ~ Spock

Data can survive in the vacume of space. It would have been cool he hands Picard the Transport device .
Shinzon: You can't stop me Android

Data: I do not have to I'm leaving. {Blasts hole in side of ship}

Data: Data to Enterprise one to be picked up by shuttle at your convenience

Trek 2009 was the worst, it does no justice to what Trek is, even in an alternate universe a story make sense, this movie is a farce, my opinion.

I agree with you that the story for Star Trek XI makes no sense. I think that the last movie shares one problem with Generations and that is that it needs really noticeable contrivances thant make no logical sense to get two characters to a certain point.

In Generations we have the Nexus to get Kirk and Picard together, a great way to get them together but saying that in the Nexus time has no meaning also makes you ask why doesn't Picard just go back to early on the film and arrest Soran instead of asking Kirk's help. In the new movie it's all very convenient how every thing happens, especially when alt Kirk is jettisoned onto Delta Vega near a cave that happens to be were prime Spock is waiting.

I understand why they were in the film, they were there to get two characters together, and to move the story forward. In Generations you can get away, at a stretch, that Picard is trying to stick with the temporal prime directive.

Thing is, Star Trek XI is more like a comic book movie. In the way that the plot is secondary to the characters. Yes it doesn't make sense but it's a hell of a ride when it's on the screen.

I'll admit that I was dubious going in to see Star Trek XI but I found the film really entertaining and a lot of fun to watch. Yes some of the humour seemed forced, but only on repeated viewings did I find this. Yes the story makes no sense but I only thought about it after the event.

Movies, especially for the mainstream, are about the visual experience more so than the plot. Which I feel is why the plot for Star Trek XI was weaker, it had to appeal to a mass audience who just go to cinema to be entertained with action rather than having to engage their brains. That is the double edged sword that comes with making something more maintream.

Star Trek XI is not my fav Star Trek but it is still a fun movie. It could have been a lot worse and JJ Abrams could have made a film that was not true to what Star Trek was. But he made a movie , that although didn't capture true Star Trek, it did capture the fun and adventure of TOS. At times I do think he was trying to make a Star Wars movie but I do think Trek shone through in certain parts.

And I still hated the decision of Vulcan being destroyed in the film, but as its a parallel universe I can live with it.

Who am I to argue with the captain of the Enterprise?

I like them all, but either The Motion Picture or The Final Frontier. I would still happily watch them all though.

>I don't think any of the films are bad. But Star Trek 2009 is personally my most disliked.
I love ST2009! I think it was a return to glory for the franchise after years of increasingly stale Berman-Trek (VOY, ENT, GEN, INS, and NEM). Returning to the essence of "Star Trek" was the way to go. Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzmann were obviously right about that.  They recognized what Rick Berman and Brannon Braga (and probably GR too) just didn't:  Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and the "Enterprise" ("no bloody, A, B, C, or D") are "Star Trek."

I agree, although I liked most of TNG, most of DS9, some of Voyager and very little of Enterprise. To me they just got increasingly preachy about social issues from only one point of view. Star Trek in it's original creation was a "space western", something that attempted again in "Firefly", without much success (but that is another post for another site). Gene tried little by little to work that into the show and I think the latest movie tapped into that very well.
