I haven't really read many intelligible protests against Threshold.

"Oooo, he loses his tongue!"

So?

"Aaaah, they turned into some lizards and had issue!"

So what?

the arguments usually come from people who can some how ignore and don't have a problem with warp travel, transporters, replicators, sub-space communication, deck plates embedded with gravitons, etc. they seem to be able to pick and choose what "science they will and won't accept on the show. "cafeteria trekkies/trekkers" ?;)

Exactly. They have no problem with warp, transporters, etc., but warp 10 is somehow impossible and ridiculous. They also don't like the impact it has on Tom Paris. The he's evolving, but at the same time turning into a lizard, so it's almost as if he's de-evolving.

Which honestly, if you look at it that way, the story does become over the top, imo. The various sci fi gadgets in Star Trek always seemed to at least be possible in theory. I always felt like at some point we'd get there. But this episode seemed like it had no real basis in anything and was nothing more than someone's crazy imagination.

I am quoting myself here, because Chr's post is a perfect example as to what I was referring to.

We nitpick the science of "threshold" but accept without question that Odo can go from full grown man to the size of a mouse, while still keeping the right mass and weight of the object he becomes.

No I make fun of that too :D

That's why I don't even try and make Trek real world believable anymore.

If I'm going to use science & mechanics, I;m going to use it to build my own R2-D2.

It isn't so much that he lost his tongue that they have a problem with it is the fact HE KEEPS TALKING NORMALLY AFTER LOSING HIS TONGUE that people have a problem with. ?Just means that the writer b braga doesn't have a clue how important the tongue is for speaking.

As for the the lizard thing the fact that they refer to it as evolution when it only effects an individual and it makes said individual LESS SUITED TO SURVIVE IN HIS CURRENT ENVIRONMENT which makes no sense as they say it is the natural progression of human evolution.

Not to mention the stupidity of how they break the warp ten barrier with a new form of dilithium totally ignoring the fact that they would need infinite energy to achieve infinite velocity. ?Then they completly focus on the mechanical problems ignoring the energy problem because the plot says so

Braga isn't a director, so how Tom spoke after loosing his tongue(..and his speech was slurred) has nothing to do with Braga.

Half the people watching Trek have no clue how the replicator works or they wouldn't keep asking how the ship is repaired. ¿Yet they care about the actual science of energy and the speed of warp not making sense?

Braga is a writer so what we see on the screen is his fault in the basic sense since he wrote everything that was to occur in the episode.

The magical repair of voyager between episodes always annoyed me but since it happens all the time you can only beat on a dead horse so many times.

Meh, it's fiction.
The Starships bank like airplanes & when things explode we see fire in space.   that crap shouldn't happen either but we accept it, I think we can stretch that to accept speaking without a tongue.

BTW the ship lands, so repairs are done on a planets surface.
They showed it in "Nightingale".

actually, you can. though it comes out pretty rough. yes, your tongue does help to form sounds and syllables. try talking while just keeping your tongue floating in the middle of your mouth without moving it.  it's very similar to speaking with no tongue.

oh, and most times, writers are no where on set when an episode is filmed. neither are the senior producers like berman, taylor, and piller.

Well I don't accept it!

Then again, I don't even know who Odo is. :p

I never liked that either about Odo but still maybe is it even possible? I do not like the episode "Threshold" either. My solution is to think of it like some dream or departure. Even if it really happens then there is some unexplained phenomenon they fly through in space. I do not take it very seriously and there are some parts which make me laugh!
