Why Did Paramount Loose Faith In

This is not an Enterprise bash but I was just curious if Paramount really wanted the Trek brand to continue and pushed to have Enterprise right after Voyager then why did they loose faith in it later? I know it would mainly be the ratings but shouldn't have Paramount got rid of B&B and put Coto incharge and brought in other Trek veterns to ramp up the show since they really wanted this show early on? Then maybe we would have gotten the RW and the founding of the Federation in Seasons 5,6 and 7?

Paramount actually created much of the problems.

1. They pushed for ENT, which is a great show - the main problem being it was on UPN

2. The Temporal Cold War (which was Braga's idea but thought it would be a show of its own) was pushed by Paramount against fan objection (although TCW did have merit it would have been cool if connected to the Romulan Wars)

3. They advertised when the show was first coming out, but seemed to stop after its original premiere

4. Randomly changing its schedule.

5. Different parts of the country stopped carrying UPN because it was a horrible network & the networks ENT was redirected to aired it at 1 or 2 am.

6. Paramount didn't recognize that more people were downloading and watching ENT over the net so as not to have to watch UPN

7. Paramount canceled the show when it found its stride

Paramount... ARGHHHH!!!!

Sorry I thought I was doing a different take on it. I guess I am running out of things to discuss about the show. People can ignore this thread if they want.

That is ok because many topics are deleted anyway. We will also think of more threads and things to talk about. It is true that much has been discussed about Enterprise before so this is not always easy.

I read an interview with Ira Steven Behr shortly after ST:E was axed. The big wigs basically told him they didn't like it, and wanted it gone, cos it was costing to much (or something). Behr was in charge of the 21st century The Twilight Zone for Paramount TV.

The idiots didn't know he was one of DS9's guiding lights!

I wouldn't have minded the TCW and Xindi connecting to the RW. Maybe have the Xindi join the Colation of Planets and help out during the RW as sometype of forgiveness for attacking Earth. You could have FG trying to manipulate the RW in the Romulans favor. Would that have been good?

Now you got me remembering I said this in another thread also. I guess I really am running out of things to discuss about Trek. :D

The problem was bait and switch. The show was billed as 100 years before Kirk then we were given TNG light.

The very first episode which pulled in 12.5 million viewers opened with a Klingon on Earth and then went on to show an alien species never before heard of or seen in Star Trek.

The Starship which was supposed to be pre Romulan war was to advanced based upon the little pre Romulan war history Trek fans were given.

The ship was named Enterprise had it been Pilgrim or some other name the fans would have received it better.

Many of the story's were already told by other Trek series and done better.

I personally would have loved to see a more beginnings type of story, have the first season about building a ship and training a crew.

But alas we did not get that.

I think it was mainly a bottom line issue(s) (i.e. money and lackluster ratings).  As it usually is with most shows...

They can't make a lot of money off a show that isn't pulling in the ratings.

I dunno. If the Xindi became regulars on S4, they could've ended up like the Borg on Voyager. Too much overexposure.

People could've started going "The Xindi? Again!?".

Besides? Weren't the Xindi fifty light years (at least) from what would've become Coalition space? Then again, the Xindi did have their "Vortex Drives", so what's the distance to them?

I personally prefer them as just S3 characters. And the Xindi were too fractured as a society after the Sphere Buliders' influence/meddling. Maybe the Primates, Arboreals and possibly the Aquatics, but I suspect the Insectoids and the Reptilians would've become even more Xenophobic and paranoid of other races.

*EDIT*

For some reason, I always thought Future Guy was a Romulan. Just his stance, and what looked like Romulan padded shoulders on his tunic, a la Next Gen

You shouldn't be soo nitpicky about the Tech in Enterprise. Remember TOS was filmed in the 60's. They used the budget that they had then and the word Atomic was widely used more then and just being developed into energy use. Wasn't the 60's known as the Atomic Age, so they put that in TOS. As Berman said in a interview that Enterprise was trickey because we have laptops that are more powerfull than Picard's desktop computer. We even have flat panel HDTV's so why not have them on the NX-01? We are developing lasers now so why not have them on the NX-01. You can think of Phase Canons as percursors to the Phasers. I think however that they should have kept the missles. I think if Trek fans weren't so nitpicky about those things and looked at Enterprise that way it probably would have gotten more ratings. Also the Enterprise wasn't a Federation ship named Enterprise.
