I believe Nicholas Meyer deserves to have his own thread
Nicholas Meyer wrote and directed Star Trek II, which is the best star trek movie and Meyer really did save the star trek franchise when it almost died after the commercial and critical failure of Star Trek: the Motion Picture
Meyer wrote most of the screenplay for The Voyage Home and co wrote and directed Star Trek VI
Meyer was offered to write the screenplay for Star Trek 3 and 5 but declined both times (a huge mistake)
Why didn't Meyer do any more work on star trek after TUC?
Apparently he was offered to direct Star Trek: Nemesis but declined for some reason

Let me tell you the thought process of The Star Trek bigwigs, regarding Nicolas Meyer:
Star Trek TMP: "Who's Nick Meyer??"
Star Trek II: "Hey we got this young kid! Nick Meyer!!"
Star Trek III: "Hey, Star Trek II was a huge success! We Don't need Nick Meyer!"
Star Trek IV: "Ok, Star Trek III was just 'ok,' get us Nick Meyer..."
Star Trek V: "Star Trek IV was HUGE!!!... Who's Nick Meyer!?"
Star Trek VI: "Um....BEG Nick Meyer...we NEEEEED HIM!!!!"

You know, I only realised this morning that Robert Wise also directed The Haunting and Audrey Rose. It's no wonder TMP was felt to be 'slow' by some people...he's one of the masters of slow-building tension IMO. The Haunting is a fantastic film that allows the tension to just creep up on you slowly, without ever resorting to cheap jump scares. I can see that he took exactly the same approach with TMP. Not that TMP is scary, but...

Yep, I forget the source(which is amazing in and of it self), Meyers felt Spock should have stayed dead.

I've heard this too. And to be honest, as much as I adore Spock and couldn't really watch TOS without him, it was a cheat to bring him back IMO.

I agree that Spock's death scene is one of the most powerful scenes in all of Trek...but then bringing him back cheapens it somewhat don't you think? |
I don't know if it cheapens it. Spock was too important to kill, in regards to the franchise. If Spock had died at the end of a Trilogy, and that was the end of Star Trek - then Spock could stay dead. TWoK, IMHO, was Star Trek at its very finest, hitting its stride. There's no way Trek could exist without Kirk, Spock, and McCoy...If they planned further movies, Spock was needed.
