So how long did the Excelsior stay commisioned in Starfleet? It appears a good number of Excelsior class ships still served up to and through the Dominion war. Could the original Excelsior have been one of them?

the original excelsior probably lasted for 20 years from 2287 to 2307. Apparently by star trek III starfleet will not keep ships older than 20 years.  Longest lasting starship in trek history is the original enterprise with a whoppin 40 years of service under its belt. I doubt the exclesior would be one of the excelsiors in the dominion war. It's too old. All of the excelsiors are old actually and they didn't last too well in the war.

There were also a good number of Miranda class serving in the Dominion war. Isn't that design even older than the Excelsior?

Actaully it suggests the NX-01 was used longest.

They probably decommissioned the exelsior though.

Warp what could we get from it?

Warp 6, maybe 7.

And it would over time have thousands of weaknesses that could get exploited.

Bye.

Excelsior Class Ships Were Still Around In The Voyager Finale. I Think The Class Will Last A Really Long Time But The Original Excelsior Was Probably More Than Likely Decomissioned A Long Time Before TNG Started.

Could be that it was a tried and true design, so they kept building new ships according to it.

This leads into my second question: Why weren't there more Ambassador class ships around?

I'm Pretty Sure Ambassadors Were Decommissioned (But I Could Be Wrong) And I Think Excelsiors Would Last A Long Time AFTER Voyager. They Just Need Upgrading. Excelsiors In DS9 Show Recent Upgrades. The Oberth Class Was Around For A Long Time Too. It Was First Shown In Star Trek 3 (USS Grissom) And It Was Still Around In DS9 And They Were Seen In First Contact. :)

I believe this is the fleet sent to retake DS9. Looks like the Excelsior is the predominant ship type in the fleet. You can also spot a few Miranda class as well.

Come On, You Really Think They Would Keep A Ship In Active Service For 80 Years? Its Possible But Unlikely, They Decommissioned The Enterprise A After Only 7 Years Of Service.

Yeah. Theres A Lot Of Them In DS9. I Think It Might Be THE Most Used Class Of Ship In Starfleet. One Of My Favorites Too. :)

Were not talking about the CLASS.

AGAIN.

Were not talking about the class...

Were talking about Sulu's ship. AKA - Nasal Guy.

While I agree Exelsior class was dominit.

I agree excelsior is still in use.

But exselsior, Sulu's isn't likely after a hundred years.

As I am up to about the year 2380.

Voyager got lost in 2370, returned in 2377.  DS9 would have been over in about 2376.

And its NOT likely Sulu's ship would be still in use after 100 years.

Or even 75.

50.

Its likely it got decomissioned about the time of the treaty of of Algerion.

Later.

If it's properly maintained, upgraded, and the starframe is still sound, why not?

Even a government like UFP probably has to watch it's spending at times...

The Enterprise-A was presumably not a new ship, but one of the other Connies re-named. So she was technically just as old as the Enterprise was.

Speaking of Enterprises, the US carrier Enterprise is still in service (even though her retirement has been scheduled) and will have served for over 50 years when she is decommissioned.

:logical:

The Enterprise-A was renamed from the yorktown.  A newly built constitution class refit ship.
