So, I had intended to do all this in order...watch all of TOS, then all of TNG and then come onto VOY or DS9 and watch them in order starting at the beginning...

...but in the last week or so, I've fnally managed to get my sister as obsessed with Trek as I have become.
Now, one of our cable channels have been showing Voyager, and she's started watching it in the evenings. I had been avoiding it for the reasons above.

But it's on all night tonight, so I figure I may as well watch it with her. In just one week she's got totally into VOY, and doesn't seem to have had any problems picking it up.

Anyway, in case anyone is interested, according to the TV listings tonight I shall be watching:

Q2

followed by:

Unimatrix Zero

I'm really looking forward to it :)

you're really late in the series. "Q2" is from season seven and "unimatrix zero" was a two-parter that ended season 6 and began season 7.

to really appreciate the character arcs try to watch it from the very first episode "caretaker."

and by all means come back here to ask questions and/or discuss the episodes. we have great discussions here (but like all boards they can get a little spirited here sometimes). :)

I am indeed ;)

In fact, I'm still pretty much a Trek virgin altogether. If you haven't heard me saying this on the TOS board, basically I saw STXI at the cinema, was inspired to buy the TOS boxsets and totally fell in love with them.

And I've been obsessed with Trek ever since!

Yeah, I realise that this isn't the best approach. Like I said, I really did intend to watch it from the start and in order...but they're being shown on the TV now, my sister is watching them anyway, so it seems a shame not to.

So anyway...I've just finished Q2. First impressions are that Janeway kicks a$$! I wasn't sure if I'd take to a female Captain, but she's very very cool.

From what my sister said, some of the best characters, like Chakotay and Seven of Nine, didn't really feature in this episode too much, so I haven't really had chance to form an opinion on them yet.

I found Q (the 'dad' Q) a bit childish to be honest...I don't know if that's the point.

But as a contrast to TOS, I like that it seems to focus more on the crew just doing their jobs on the ship, rather than always being on a big adventure.

I'm impressed

yeah, Q was introduced to us in the TNG series premiere "encounter at farpoint."  ever since he's basically been somewhat of a man-child.  but, that is the point.  i didn't like Q at first, but he's grown on me.  there are a few Q episodes throughout voyager, but for the most part they're all good.  my favorite Q episode is "death wish" in season 2.

i have to say that most of my favorite trek characters are on voyager, though i do have some that i like in the others as well.

btw, welcome to this forum.  i (and some others i'm sure) look forward to your thoughts on the episodes.

Thanks for the welcome :)

I've really enjoyed discussing the TOS episodes on that board as I've been watching them, so I look forward to doing the same here.

Hopefully I won't come across as too much of a noob

Welcome to the boards.

I have to agree with some of the others, you really want to start watching the series from the beginning IMO.  The strength of the show is that you see characters like Torres, Paris, the Doctor and later Seven evolve throughout the series and grow as characters.

Hope you enjoy it and look forward to discussing the show.

Unimatrix Zero I found interesting and really gripping in places, but I have to say, I am so glad that I saw First Contact many years ago and already knew a little about the Borg or else I would have been totally lost with this episode.

Again, Janeway was awesome. I'm loving a female Captain. The rest of the crew were competent enough...I guess I don't really know enough about their personalities yet to talk about them too much.

I liked the concept of the Unimatrix though, and it was quite chilling when the Borg managed to infiltrate it. It's nice to see that Klingons are just as honourable here as they were in TOS. I'm still unfamiliar with all of the other races, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

I shall definitely be buying series 1 this weekend, because I've loved what I've seen so far, but do feel like I'm doing the characters a bit of an injustice drawing opinions on them when I don't know their histories.

MrsCoffee! You didn't tell me you were here!

Well, most of the responses are right. You are kinda late in the series. It may be difficult to understand the characters at this point.

Good to read that you'll be getting season 1. I really suggest you start with that. Have fun!
