We've already got the common ground we need, though - all we have to do is simply look at the canonical information for one and the canonical information for the other and compare the differences for things like speed, firepower, shields and armour, etc to see which would win in a fight.

Based on what? Because blowing up asteroids isn't really a great test of weapon yields.

Actually, blowing up asteroids is an excellent way of measuring weapons yield, because unlike shots against objects of exotic or unknown composition (such as the fictional elements of shields and starship armour), asteroids are a real life phenomenon that we can accurately calculate yields from as we know how much energy would be theoretically needed to shatter or vapourise x amount of rock in the way that it is shown onscreen.

Space mines? Its been a while since I've watched the OT, are they in there?

I think by 'space mines' the poster means seismic charges of the sort Slave 1 uses in Attack of the Clones.

What other settings do the Imperials/Rebels, or whatever faction is ruling the SW galaxy at any given time have?

Star Wars blaster weapon systems are show to be capable of firing different outputs in the films; in Empire Strikes Back, an AT-AT shoots a Rebel in the back, not even causing an exit wound, and seconds later - after General Veers orders "maximum firepower" - shoots several much larger blasts from the same weapon which blows the shield generator to pieces in a single salvo. Slave 1's main guns fire a blast at Obi-wan that blows him into the air but doesn't leave a mark on the Kamino landing pad; later on, those same guns blow asteroids to pieces.

This is expanded upon in other Star Wars media with the idea that Star Wars vehicles and ships can divert more or less of their reactor output to weapon systems to increase or decrease their power (at the expense or other systems, obviously).

Saddly they never use this in games

well I'll say the romulan warbird because it's got a cloaking device. But if warsie fans here bring up SW fire power they'll say star wars ships because of the sheer firepower.

there have been cases of imperial star destroyers having cloaking devices, if not then it was the dreadnoughts which is pretty much the same

True, but they were exceptionally rare and the cloak was two-way - those outside the cloak could not see in, but those inside it could not see out either. One-way cloaking devices that cloak the user but allow them to see out like those in Star Trek are exceptionally rare in Star Wars (I believe the special stygium crystals that they require to work cannot be produced artificially and the genuine articles have been mined to depletion).

In 99.9999% of cases, the Star Destroyer will not possess a cloaking device, so it's probably not fair to let them use this special technology in these scenarios (unless the Warbird is allowed to be pimped out with special tech too).
