Is it possible there was something going with Geordi and Data like there was with Kirk and Spock? The two were defiantly very good friends- there was strong friendship but were they ever more than just good friends? In the long run, I'll say NO But you never know do you?

Men can be friends without it being gay. Both of them had girlfriends in the series, and Geordie sometimes bemoaned his lack of ability with women - not only does that show that women were his thing, but your average gay man has no problem talking to women! So if a man is upset when his male friend dies in an accident, does that make him gay?!

I see where you're going with this, and agree with you. Not since Kirk/Spock had there been such a close "male" relationship. Kirk and Spock both had female flings too, but always had each other--like Data and Geordi. It was always kind of embarrassing to watch. Whereas Kirk and Spock could always pull off wearing heels and make-up--modern metrosexual men that they were. Of course the entire concept is too shocking for most Trek fans to even begin to understand or deal with without checking their bibles and Star Trek compendiums.

Data and Geordie were "best" friends?! Were they nice to each other onscreen?

I don't think that's possible, but I naughtily voted "maybe" I imagine a scene like G is sitting bored in Engineering, watching D busy with some test. G asks D, "D, do you know what gay means?" And then D, glad to show off his knowledge, starts to encyclopedically recite all info on the theme...

I think they had a relationship that was as close as two people can be, and yet not be 'in love' in the traditional sense. I could defintly see them as a couple, mostly because of that.

What was embarrassing about Data and LaForge being friends? And what "concept" is too shocking? Two guys can't just be close friends, they must be gay

Exactly, so where did you pull this from? | Quote | In the episode- "The Most Toys", Geordi seemed pretty obsessed with the shuttlecraft accident and very emotional about it, espeically when he was discussing it with Picard
|
He was concerned about his best friend, and that the facts didn't add up | Quote | Also, because Geordi was born blind and he has always worn his visor so he has never been able to see from how a visually paired human would and neither has Data. In a way, Data and Geordi's eyesight were physically the same and I bet that brought the two close to each other |
From what we know about Goerdi's Visor it was nothing like Data's vision, with the exception that both were artificial.

[QUOTE]Appart from being friends, or do you know somthing we don't? errr, there were some hints that Kirk and Spock were in a sexual relationship like the famous "backrub scene" in TOS when Kirk shouts "push, push harder, dig it in there Mr Spock" and the scene in TMP when Kirk was with Spock in sickbay has been interpreted as homoerotic
