Can anyone answer this question.

In Voyager some of the crew (Chakotay in Unity and Seven in Unimatrix 0) come across humans that are/were part of the collective and when they are asked how they became a part of the collective they say they were assimilated at Wolf 359. Now this is what I dont get. How could they have been assimilated at Wolf 359 and get to the Delta Quadrant. That ship at Wolf 359 was blown out the stars over Earth by the Enterprise-D when they activated the self-destruct mode of that ship. So how did they get to the Delta Quadrant? Did the Borg assimilate some of the ships at Wolf or what?

Well for one thing, they dont have to be drones in the DQ, the way Unimatrix Zero works, is that its sort of a mini collective that any drones, wherever they are, that have that "affliction" can communicate with any other afflicted drones anywhere while they regenerate.

As for how they survived the self destruct, I'd say that sometime along the BOBW episode, some of the transferred out via a sphere or some other vessel from redeployment to other ships. I imagine that this happens rarely seeing as how being a part of the collective negates the need for having to deploy troop transfers for transfer of information, but perhpas for the need of another vessel needing a physical crew augmentation.

The Borg could have assimilated one or more Starships, or indeed used a previous captured ship which would be docked inside the Cube to send some of the "new" collective back to the Delta quadrant. We know that different species can fill different roles in the collective, and transporting the drones to another cube (or more) may simply be an efficient way of distributing drones throughout the collective.
