I know we're all Trek fans, but I was wondering--how many of us fall into the category of true geek?
I'm not just talking about being a little nerdy cuz it's trendy right now, or simply being a good student.
I mean a true dorky, uncoordinated, pocket-protector-wearing, 4.0-since-gradeschool, Pascal-was-my-second-language geek.
If you fit into this category, I really wish you would beam me up to the mothership now. I need to be with my own species...

I like to think I am but I don't think I'm smart enough to be considered one.

I definitely have a geek side to me, but I've learned hide it well at times.

I'm a faux geek; far too cool, I'm afraid. There goes that modesty again...

I also have a "geek" side to my personality but, I hide it well (most of the time).

No pocket protector. I do wear glasses, I had a 4.0 in undergrad and graduate school. I read nothing but non-fiction things like Astronomy, history, politics, religion, philosophy and psychology. I really suck at math though. I consider myself more of a nerd.

How can you suck at math with 4.0s and reading all those books SR? Well, color me impressed! What did you study in grad school btw? As for being a geek, what's the technical definition now? It seems that label is being applied now to people who are big fans of genre entertainment, ala ST, comics, etc. The definitions from Webster's are: Main Entry: geek Pronunciation: \ˈgēk\ Function: noun Etymology: probably from English dialect geek, geck fool, from Low German geck, from Middle Low German Date: 1914 1 : a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake 2 : a person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked 3 : an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity
I really think the definition has changed to a fan of genre entertainment.

I have a Master's degree in European History. I was able to take a very simple college algebra course for undergrad and my Master's Degree I studied nothing but European History. So it was very easy to get 4.0. Since I am a big fan of superhero movies and science fiction movies I guess I could be considered a nerd.
