I watched "Far Beyond the Stars" recently and I missed the end. What was the episode really about? Who put Sisko in the alternate life and why?

So does this mean DS9 is just a figment of some 1950's sci-fi writers imagination, scribbled on an asylum wall?

Kind of like "St Elsewhere" being the imagination of an autistic kid

It was a vision from the Prophets.
Sisko's "faith" I guess, and his will to stay, was wavering.
His father as a priest was supposed to be taking on the Prophets' role.
But they wanted for him to keep his focus on what he needed to do.
etc.

That's my take on it all anyway. I'm glad the writers of this episode never made anything obvious. (Like they have a bad habit of doing sometimes...)

What's St Elsewhere?

What's St Elsewhere?

Semi-popular TV show from the 1980's about a Boston Hospital.

What's St Elsewhere?

It was a medical drama in the 80's with Denzel Washington, Howie Mandel, Ed Begley Jr. and the guy who did the voice of Kitt the car from Knightrider-At the series finale, it turned out the hospital was just a figurine in a snow globe that an autistic kid(played by Chad Allen) was playing with

But I was a '78 baby, so... Perhaps not but I do remember what a lot of the shows were in the '80s, if not every precisely accurate plot detail.

I remember the publicity when TNG first came out!
