I love this episode!  We so rarely get a glimpse into Picard's sexuality in this way.  I love it when he said he was trying to make himself really dull.

The "search" option didn't turn anything up, so sorry if this has been covered ad nauseum, but at the end of "The Perfect Mate" do they want us to think Picard and the Medamorph mated or do they want us to always wonder?

No, they didn't mate, but what she did was BOND to Picard.  She is only supposed to BOND with the one she is to be with but that guy was such a creep and didn't share any of her interests or even care about her.  Picard did, and they cared for each other, that's why she bonded herself to Picard, even though she had to leave with the creepy guy.

She became Picard's perfect mate, intelligent, dutiful and diplomatic, and by becoming so she was able to marry the other guy because she understood why it was necessary.

Please.....of course they did. It was completely impllied at the end of the episdoe when Picard was asked how he resisted her working so closely. I believe his reply was "Have a safe trip Ambassador." He evaded the question completely.

I always thought the same thing.  But I really like how the writers didn't spell it out for us, leaving us free to try to figure out whether they did or not.

Well, what was Picard going to say? He's a gentlemen, and revealing such information would have destroyed the peace between the two worlds. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Exactly.

Picard doesn't seem to be a very open man on anything.

Thanks, you guys!  Well, I have always thought that they did mate.  I completely understand the bonding thing, knowing that she bonded with Picard, just wondering if they had also mated.

Another possible indication that they did is when Picard said (paraphrased), "Please tell me you see that I've done everything possible to avoid this happening."  This was the night before her wedding.

Picard and Kamala had intercourse. The irony of finding "The Perfect Mate," then having to watch her marry someone else is classic in its construct. How many love songs are devoted to this thematic device? It's interesting that this situation befell Picard and not Riker. Number One's devotion to duty was no less, in my opinion - and he was the show's studd, no question about it. So, having Picard become involved in this situation was a smart move. It was slightly unexpected and more entertaining to watch it unfold, I feel.

"A crisis for Captain Picard -- or a case for Dixon Hill, private detective?"

Quoted for truth.

This is a great Picard episode. We get to see another, rarely-shared side of him... wonderful plot, sad ending.

Ahh ... if only I could find myself
THE PERFECT MATE! What I usually end
up with are typical, garden-variety
wymin. That kind is a dime-a-dozen!

"Oh, but there's no-one else like me,"
they will intone. "Yeah," I reply,
"they all say that."
"But it's true, with me," she insists.

Ehhh ...

Where is my muse ...
My Guenevive?
My Joan of Ark?!
My Aphrodite?!!

This is in my top 5 list. Great loved and lost story. Been there and the hurt never leaves. The episode captured the feeling perfectly. Plus, Famke Janssen is an amazingly beautiful woman. Loooooooooooved her in goldeneye and xmen. Perfect mate, indeed.
