Is anyone left minding the store?

Of course book sales are down...look at the price of a paperback these days. Too bloody much. They should start printing books on cheaper paper like they used to and go with smaller type to use less sheets per book and save the reading public some money.

Look at how small the average Bantam novel used to be compared to a current Pocket novel. No reason they can't go back to printing books like that.

:logical:

I read there were four editors for the tie-in range for Pocket Books. Margaret Clark was one of them, and was the only one to be "let go", because "fired" is to harsh a word.

Simon and Schuster said the ST range will continue, but I would'nt be surprised if some ST series are discontinued now. Could the "original fiction concepts" be in danger, ie Vanguard, SCE, New Frontier... ?

Most of the books coming out as of late do use the smaller print and are still 400 - 500 pages, heck if they get any smaller i will need a magnifying glass just to read.

No! Not Vanguard or ST: Klingons.  :O  I love those series. The Voy line of books should be canceled instead. :p

So I guess that means you didn't read Full Circle? I understand it's great. I just won't buy it for various reasons. I may read it some day, but I'm waiting to see what happens first. The sequel "Unworthy" is scheduled to be released this fall. They are both written by Kirsten Beyer.

I'm not surprised if the Star Trek book sales are going down. Just look at the Voyager relaunch and the current character destruction. Who want to read about their favorites being killed off?

Ugh poor Margaret! Between her and Marco Palmieri's termination, I won't be suprised to see the ST output decline even further!

The Vanguard print is so small, it should be criminal.

True,

Yet I dont think many would want to carry arround a 800 page paperback everywhere they go.

The print could be bigger, which would make the book bigger. If you don't mind paying 15-16 bucks for a trade edition, I'd certainly be down with that. :)

Complete crap. The current Voyager storyline is the best thing to happen to the series since they killed off Kes in the televised series.

Times change. People change. Crews change. It's the journey that makes it interesting, not the destination.

Of course book sales are down...

Do you have documented proof that the sale of Trek books is slipping, or are you just typing words?

There is a "Margret" thread at TrekBS.

Numbers like 11% drop in sales and a 70 percent loss in profits, are being posted.

The print on some books seems smaller to me these days, but that's why I have reading glasses now :)
