The only two things that I acknowledge close to being an issue is that 1.) For a while there were different figures being thrown around & 2.) If it's 2500 feet then in many cases the ship doesn't project that huge of a scale, to me at least.  But a ship of 1200 feet I can buy.  But on the merit alone that they made it as big as they did, no, I have no issue with that.

Didn't the Abrams Enterprise have over 1000 crew aboard?

The movie doesn't "suck", but it does have problems... Problems that fans of the new movie seem to want to ignore.

1) The new ships are ridiculously huge for the period, and no amount of "But Nero's arrival in the past changed things!" can make that work.

2) So Kirk, who's never applied to Starfleet, can just ride onto a base (no pass) and climb onto a shuttle? On just Pike's say so?

3) The building of starships on a planet's surface is just not sensible.

4) Should we even bother talking about the hotrod scene!?

5) Chekov is a genius ensign at 17!

6) The Enterprise has a "parking break"!?

7) So I can buck the system, save the world and they'll make me a starship captain and give me the flagship!?

Now listen, I don't hate the film. I actually quite like it, but it's got problems. ?This has been just a few... Wait, I just though of another...

8) Uhura's "uniform" looks like a c0cktail dress.

If I put that much scrutiny into a movie I watched I wouldn't enjoy any of them.

Hey, under normal circumstances I wouldn't worry so much about a few little things... But this isn't a few little things, It's a whole lot of things.

And I see the "We love it no matter what you say" crowd is still in denial about it having any problems at all.

RedShirtGuyNumber1001, what exactly is "my opinion"? Is it just my opinion that the new Enterprise is twice the size of the original? Is it just my opinion that making a guy captain five minutes after he graduates (I assume he actually graduated) is a little strange?

Seriously, what has you people so scared that you don't want to talk about this?

Who said the Enterprise was twice the size as the original? ?Did you read that on the Internet? ?That was a rumor. ?The original Enterprise and the new Enterprise, are the same exact size and the same exact shape. ?If you doubt that watch Star Trek The motion Picture and you should be able to do an effective comparison. ?The people who made that up were just nay sayers trying to stop people from watching the new movie. ?The other things you mention are simply your opinions. ?You also keep trying to forget that Nero was not the Captain of a military ship. ?We have never seen any ships that dig for ore as Nero's had, for all we know a ship would have to be large in order to contain the power necessary.

Firstly, the official movie site lists it's length as 2,500 feet (760 meters), and thats more than twice the size of the TOS or TMP Enterprise... H3ll it's bigger than the 1701-D!

Secondly, Who said anything about Nero's ship?

Once again, in the July issue of Cinefex magazine, the size of the ST XI Enterprise is given as 366 m.  It is 66 m longer than the original ship from the TV series.  That number is right from the ILM sfx guys who built the CGI model.

They bumped the size of the ship up to accomodate the bigger shuttles.  They also changed the nacelle caps from orange to blue and added the blue glow to the dish, which were changes from the original design from the SW guy.

Who said the Enterprise was twice the size as the original? ¿Did you read that on the Internet? ¿That was a rumor. ¿The original Enterprise and the new Enterprise, are the same exact size and the same exact shape. ¿If you doubt that watch Star Trek The motion Picture and you should be able to do an effective comparison. ¿The people who made that up were just nay sayers trying to stop people from watching the new movie. ¿The other things you mention are simply your opinions. ¿You also keep trying to forget that Nero was not the Captain of a military ship. ¿We have never seen any ships that dig for ore as Nero's had, for all we know a ship would have to be large in order to contain the power necessary.

The ST XI Enterprise is about 66 m longer than the TV Enterprise.  The original was around 300 m (maybe a little less) and the new one is 366 m, so it's definitely not twice as long, but it is a bigger ship.

When counting horseshoes or hand grenades that is not significant...ok so they ship is larger, but 66 meters is that enough to make you upset with it?

Me?  No, not at all.  I'm fine with it being a bigger ship.  No problem with that at all.  It's just that some people are still quoting these other measurments with it being the size of the Galactica or the Ent-D.  It's somewhat bigger than the original and I'm fine with that.  Heck the ILM guys liked that because it allowed them to add more detail.
