Those cross-over stories are mostly the same SW defeats the Feds (Conquest) ot the Feds blow the empire away (portal)

SW is ok, but I always thought it was overblown in the mainstream press. And because the prequel trilogy was so SFX heavy, I think they've aged terribly, all there all less then ten years old.

Actually, someone made the observation that the New "Star Trek" is actually Star Wars.
There's a space battle. Then you have a farm boy who dreams about going into space, when he meets a wise mentor who tells him about his real father. He teams up with a guy he initially hates, but they eventually become best friends. There's a final battle where the bad guys' planet killing weapon is destroyed. Which movie am I describing?

I like both.

Possibly. I have come across one or two that weren't like that. But the point being at any rate, people don't bother to write so much about something unless they like it on some (perhaps even subconscious) level.

I like Both. I am a much bigger Trek fan but I own all 6 Star Wars movies and watch them at least once a year if not two. Star Trek I will watch either a movie or some shows a few times a week.

In my experience, Star Wars fans are more open to other forms of science fiction, whereas with Trek fans, there's a subset of them known as "Trek Nazis" --people who think that Star Trek is the only science fiction worthy of being experienced. "Trektards" think that no other science fiction power could defeat the Federation, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I'm sure there are Star Wars equivalents, but they're much more rare than their Star Trek counterparts.

I like both, Star Trek more though. Star Wars to me is some of my favorite sci-fi drawn from many sources(Dune for one) and distilled into it's own story. Course the new first 3 weren't that good, but they aren't the worst movies ever made either, I think George just kinda lost the focus, course that could be because pretty much 20 years went by before he came back to it.

I'd have to agree with this statement at least to a certain extent. I was a Wars fan before I was a Trek fan I became a Trek fan in the mid/early 90s and have since seen and own all the movies and every episode of every Star Trek series ever (Animated Series not included) I have seen them all countless times just as I have seen the Star Wars movies countless times. Do I think the Star Wars movies were are better than the Trek movies? Yes and No. Yes the original Trilogy of movies was better than any of the Trek movies even the newest one even First Contact. No the Prequel Trilogy isn't as good as many of the good Trek movies even episode 3 which is the only passable one of the prequels isn't as good as a movie like First Contact IMO. Is Trek a better franchise than Wars? I think that's really open to each person's individual opinion it's hard to compare 6 movies to 11 movies and 5 TV series'. I mean you literally have about 15 hours of material (Wars) vs. 100s of hours of material (Trek). I think monetarily despite the success of the newest movie you could say Wars is easily the better franchise as it never has a drought of anything that sells including movies, DVDS, toys, video games etc. etc. Whereas Trek hasn't had a new videogame in ages and has basically been dormant since Enterprise was canceled until the new movie was released this year. In the end I mostly agree a lot of die hard Trek fans are less likely to be open to other SCI FI and would never nor could ever believe something could be better than Trek. Yet I started out as a strictly Wars fan and was encouraged to watch Trek by a friend and immediately accepted it in fact I wanted more the same with Battlestar Galactica which I have seen many times bashed here on these forums when people say it's better than Trek or as good as Trek. Honestly I love all 3 I love good SCI FI. I think some of us are just die hard Trek fans and some of us are just die hard SCI FI fans is what it comes down to.
