I wasn't all that crazy about the new film. In my opinion, all it is, is just a remake, nothing more. I prefer "old Trek" any day to the "New Trek"

I thought it was good if you compared it to Bugs Bunny cartoon, same kind of action, no need for thinking, just fast space action, nothing serious, nothing intellegent.

"The Cage" being the mid-20th century term.

I absolutely loved it, it was a fantastic movie. I thought it had great Special Effects, awesome plotline, and a great villain.
10/10

It was quite good with the bloke playing Spock very good. However, they TOTALLY got Kirk wrong. JTK is supposed to be Horatio Hornblower (according to Roddenberry) not James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause. This stereotyped, chip on his shoulder, smouldering young Kirk was completely unconvincing and as the prime character ruined the film. The alternate plot line (Vulcan's future) was annoying and as for the idea of building the USS Enterprise out in the desert somewhere (not in space-dock) and then somehow hoisting it into space? Do me a favour.

Watching it for the first time, I absolutely loved it. It's what introduced me to Star Trek.
After watching it, I went back and watched TOS, and now I still like STXI, but I wouldn't call it my Trek favorite movie. It is enjoyable to watch, but I'd prefer watching the other movies instead.
So all in all, STXI has some good elements and bad elements, but I believe that the good elements outweigh the bad ones. It's a good movie, but definitely not the best.

However, they TOTALLY got Kirk wrong.
They got this Kirk right. Remember this Kirk is growin up with a different set of circumstances than the original Kirk.
JTK is supposed to be Horatio Hornblower
The 33 year old Captain the prime universe is maybe.
as for the idea of building the USS Enterprise out in the desert somewhere (not in space-dock)
There was no desert in Iowa.
and then somehow hoisting it into space?
If we're too assume that a ship can go FTL simply by "bending light," can communicate in real time across dozens of light years, can beam people's molecules across space, then we can safe assume they know how to get a ship up in the air.

Very good movie and worth seeing. It is probably my 6th favourite ST movie, which out of 11 is pretty damn good!

The ships in the prime universe were bilt in space for a reason, mostly gravity I believe, because of its weight the ship would probably break apart from stress, not considering the energy it would take for the lift of, Neither did it have a landing gear.
Now imagine this new Enterprise being (4) times as big as the oroginal, it is unconciveble that it would be bilt on earth, makes it a great visual, but stupid in the making.
