Actually VAB, just an idea, but if you want to get down to it, and want to make it an interpretation of an early early early TOS ship, then how about giving it the Pilot-Enterprise treatment with the large deflector dish, needle points coming out of the bussard caps, different bridge dome and different and flatter weapons bay. ?I'd be interested in how that would look actually.

I had tried a pilot style treatment with the larger deflector dish and the pointed end cap and unfortunately the the larger deflector dish looked to big due to how close it had to be to the top side of the primary hull. I had done this as a side thought after I finished doing the 3 versions of the constitution class.

It doesn't really matter, since what the writers say doesn't matter unless they actually, you know, write it in.

Besides, it clearly isn't a TOS-era ship since Kirk was just barely being born, and the ship already looked like it had been around for quite a while. It was probably from the post-RW era.

Honestly I like the design as seen in TREK XI, yet to me the Kelvin came across more as a 24th century starship design than a late 22nd or early 23rd design.

Here is a TREK XI  related design, it's very similar to one of the ships seen docked at the starbase:

Just something I put together relatively fast, I was just trying to capture the feel of the design. I didn't focus very much on detailing.

I do most of my textures in PS. I also use lightwave for various effects. I tend to vary the programs that I use depending on my mood.

Here are some of my recently completed work.

The USS Kelvin as she was supposed to be:

That is terrific, it is automaticly recognisable as a Starfleet vessel but is original.

Perhapse the folks making  Star Trek The New Voyages will imortalise it in a scene some day.
I am all for continued exploration of the classic series if it is done well and with a good eye for detail.

By the way the way, the picture of the constelation was terrific, there is so much talent in this group and CBS is not benefiting from it.
