I am reading Part 1 of Star Trek Destiny and it's about Starfleet finding Columbia...

The pic looks intriguing. Do they manage to find out what happened to the crew? (spoilers don't scary me)

Well all I can say with out spoiling it for anybody is it's highly probable.

My advice read the books they are very good.  :logical:

Now if there was only a book about how the Enterprise came from being a small NX-class ship to a big NCC-Galaxy class that we know and love today.  Gotta be something explaining that evolutionary process...  Perhaps the next book may cover all this?

Other thoughts to add:
1) Earth had emerged from a world war, supplies would be depleted, therefore, time was needed to be able to build a larger ship.
2) Over time, Earth had access to alien technologies and raw materials, making the building of a bigger vessel feasible.

TRIP:I'm only kidding. You look nice like this. Kind of like an old oil painting. T'POL:I'm not old. I will only be sixty six years old on my next birthday. TRIP:I can't believe you told me that. T'POL:You accused me of looking old. TRIP:That's not what I mean. I've been trying to get you to tell me your age since we left Spacedock. Why now? T'POL:To Vulcans, certain information is considered intimate. TRIP:Intimate?

Also, Earth never HAD larger ships, and the NX-01 was functional and large ENOUGH to do everything they had wanted it to. They had no notions, yet, in the history of human space-faring, of extended recreational facilities or crews that approximate small villages or space-warfare.

Look at Vice Admiral Baxter's blueprints above! the NX-01 was positively luxurious for the crew complement and for space travel up until that time. They had a great deal of luxury in regards to science and research labs, which is right in keeping with their original stated purpose of exploration.

Well...I'm here

The books get WAY better in II and III, also...Capt Hernandez is the same one from Enterprise with Scott Bakula....now you can put a face to it when you read it I am reading Part 1 of Star Trek Destiny and it's about Starfleet finding Columbia - NX-02 in the Gamma Quadarant by Captain Sisco and Jadzia Dax. The NX-02 crashed on a planet their with most of it intact but no crew remains. Chief Obrien has a hard time getting the 24th Century equipment like the tricordor to interface with the NX Class computers and he has to come up with some device to access it. O'Brien even says how old and antiquated their systems were. He almost sounded frustrated with their equipment. Just has he is about to do it the Dominion War erupts and the Columbia survey has to wait.

After the war Captain Erzi Dax of the USS Aventine comes back to find out what happened to the Comlumbia and why it ended up in the Gamma Quadarant. Star Trek: Destiny is a three part trilogy books series.

I also got the Enterprise Koybashi Maru Book but had to order Of The Good that Men Do they didn't have that at the bookstore. I thought I had better read those before I got the Enterprise Romulan War books.

In something related to the fate of Columbia, the ''Ships of the Line'' calendar a few years back had an artist's rendering of the NX-02, 'The Fate of Columbia', showing her found crashed, aged, surrounded by runabouts and shuttles, and being examined by latter-day Starfleet crew, on a desert world....I've never read the 'Destiny' series, but, saw an article in StarTrek Magazine about it.
