I just wish KF (KesFan) were here,
to put an end to this debate, with
his uncanny diplomatic skills and
innate knowledge of the Voyager series ...

I'd wonder what would be different if she was the captain through out. The writers would have been more inclined to write around her style of acting.

I prefer Mulgrew. I guess I might say the opposite if whatsherface stayed as captain.

Kate Mulgrew was perfect for that role, and she was so fluid and versatile in her performances. Also, another French-speaking captain would have been too much!

Picard never spoke or acted french. Well, okay, he did surrender to Q minutes into the first episode.

I have to say I was actually quite interested when I heard Geneviève Bujold was going to be the captain. She was a very lovely and classy French actress when she was younger. The idea of a sexy French lady had considerable appeal. I was disappointed when I read she had fallen out with the producers. However, watching this scene she seems very miscast - really she is too good an actress for this kind of thing. Whether she would have found her feet or her spacelegs is anybody's guess. Kate Mulgrew was no better though with her irritating scratchy voice and silly, prissy walk. I'm all for a good female lead. They just never seemed to find one for Star Trek. It's a pity Valeris was to lose favour in Star Fleet because the notion of a female Vulcan commander (with a wry wit) had tremendous potential.

KATE MULGREW WAS MEANT TO BE CAPT. JANEWAY. SHE HAD THE "RIGHT" ELEMENT THE CHARACTER REQUIRED. AS FOR THE FIRST ACTRESS, IVE SEEN SREEN SHOTS AND SHE JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE FLAIR FOR IT. SHE HAD A STRONG QUALITY AND A LIGHT-HEARTED SENSE OF RESPECT. THAT IS ONE OF THE MARKS OF BEING A STARSHIP CAPTAIN!!

KATE MULGREW IS ALSO FROM "IOWA" AS IS TERRY FARREL (JADIA DAX) AND STEPHEN COLLINS (CAPT. WILLARD DEKKER(ST: TMP)). THE BEST TREK ALUMS!

Untrue! There was one episode,
one occassion, where he spoke
French in a few lines of dialogue.

It was in the First Season, with
Minuet, a hologram Riker had sitting
with him in a Jazz Club. It was just
cliched small talk, asking if he was
from Paris and how we ALL are ...

but there you have it. He spoke French!
