The "whine" about TCW was caused by those fans who ungroundedly thought that ENT was going to completely change the established Trek history. Their problem was that they had no patience to wait and see how the TCW would be resolved. And they also refuse to acknowledge the TCW's connection with Gary Seven theme (from TOS). |
I think you've mentioned Gary Seven before and it's a good point.

| Quote (lostshaker @ Posted: Aug. 14 2009, 11:10 pm) | I've talked to many fans who came in with ENT and then moved on to TOS, etc... and ultimately watched all the shows from an in universe chronological POV. And many see the TCW as fitting in with the likes of Gary Seven; the two Vorgon criminals from the future in "Captain's Holiday"; the Temporal Historian who went back to New Jersey in the mid 22nd Century and subsequently lost his time pod to Rasmussen in "A Matter of Time"; Captain Braxton from VGR "Future's End". The list can continue, but the likes of Gary Seven had actually slipped my own mind.
I never saw the TCW as a major problem. If you were going to offset humanity, why not do it with mankind's first deep space exploratory vessel? The Borg tried it with First Contact. And who knows if other attempts were offset. The S.S. Valiant somehow made it out to the Galaxy's edge with only warp one in only two years from Cochrane having achieved warp capability for his planet.
It may have been better received however if characters from the 24th Century had been introduced and were poking around in the 22nd Century. Then we'd also have the pleasure of catching up with TNG, DS9, or VGR. |
There was a thread I started a few months ago, about a possible connection between TOS's Assignment: Earth (one of TOS eps I really like! ) and TCW.

Interesting...Sorry that I am very late for this topic. I liked Gary Seven and would have watched a series staring Gary Seven and Isis.

| Quote (Middleman @ Aug. 14 2009, 6:57 pm) | | Fans should have kept a more open mind about everything. Then, just maybe, we wouldn't have reboot movies today. ENT would have had 7 seasons and we would be watching the 6th series on TV today. |
Yes it would have gone seven seasons. I highly doubt a 6th series though since ENT would have ended last year if it went for the full seven seasons. At some point the people that produce TREK would need a break for 3 or 4 years just so they could create something interesting...

no sorry charlie but you are wrong. voyager got people burned out on temporal stuff and enterprise made it too cliche. And it obviously didn't work, season 2 of enterprise had the worst ratings. FACT

Actually, "temporal stuff" was only in 3 (three out of 26) episodes of ENT S.2. TCW directly was only in 1 (one) of them. I don't think that's enough to speak of the overuse or "cliche".
