Let it be known that Bashir is my favourite character, and I genuinely think that Siddig is a great actor...but...

I just watched "The Passenger".

Do you guys think that Siddig might not have been taking the show seriously in the first season? He plays the possessed Bashir as if he were a cartoon character. When I wasn't hiding my head in shame, I was laughing my butt off!

Yikes!

No he like Gates McFadden improved greatly after the first season.  There were many Trek actors like that.

This is one of my favorite DS9 episodes!

Sid was so awkwardly adorable in "The Passenger"-And he got even better throughout the series!

I love when he first came out from being possessed by Vantika-just like my daughter when I have to wake her up from school

lol JG7 you really are strange, I'm curious what do you look like?  I'm guessing you are kind of like a cross between Cindy Lauper and Meghan Mullaly am I right.  I'm not making fun of you I've never seen anyone go ga ga over Dr. Bashir before.  usually everyone picks Captain Kirk.  Was The Passenger the one where he grew a clone in a big tub of water?

Yap, the intonation is just strange.. I noticed it there... I mean, it's too easy. You don't have to play another already established character, you just have to play a dark character that's not Bashir. Bashir in season 7 would even do...

Nope that was A Man Alone.

The Passenger was the one where Vantika the dead guy took over his brain and made him hijack that ship.

I just watched "The Passenger".

Hehe That's it. Your official "baptism by fire".

He's my favourite character too by a long shot -- and actually I have a lot of fun watching that episode. But I see what you mean about periodically laughing and cringing. It's not one I'd ever dream of showing anyone else and "hey let's check this one out."
==================================

As for the "gaga" factor, I think O'Brien's assessment in Explorers pretty much says it all. Love him or hate him. There doesn't tend to be much "in between".

I agree "The Passenger," due in large part to Sid's performance in that particular episode, was pretty freaking terrible.

But thankfully, Sid's performances got a LOT better.

I'm closer to looking like Meghan Mullaly-I'm 5'2" tall(or short  )-with medium length almost black hair that I often wear headbands on and have hazel(green-brown) eyes.

As for 'going gaga over BASHIR"-That's because I never saw anyone so gorgeous before! ¿ ¿ ¿

I think you have to watch the episode with the viewpoint that Bashir's odd voice and inflections are actually Vantika coming through and talking for Bashir.  Then it makes more sense.

It's called fangirlism.

In the middle of this episode there is a scene where Vantika, who is in the dark, meets with Quark. I think Sid talked in a funny way to make sure the audience would not easily realize that Bashir was Vantika. Then in the final scenes he had to keep talking that way.

Except that he talks totally different and uses a strange voice there (as Vantika) to not get spotted by quark

...Except that there's a kind of "blink if you miss it moment" in that same scene when Bashir's face is on the screen.

*****
In some defence of Sid though, I have heard from a few "grapevines" that he didn't want to do the scene that way and that a share of the blame has to go to the director as well.

~and I'm also thinking to the guy who played Vantika in that first scene with "Make Me LIIIIIVE!! " One might wonder who was trying to imitate whom there.

At least he dropped the accent in the final showdown.

Oh yeah I remember that episode, I thought it was good.  A strong Bashir episode, but the best ones I liked with him was when he was involved with William Sadler's character in section 31.

I like (most-est)...

All the Section 31 stuff
Statistical Probabilities
Purgatory's shadow / Inferno's Light -- not Bashir eps but he was good in those.
Doctor Bashir I Presume
The Quickening
Our Man Bashir
Hippocratic Oath
JERUSALEM!! (hehe)

.....ok I get a feeling it's just going to be ever Bashir centred episode except for Melora and Chrysalis so I'll just say "every Bashir centred episode except for Melora and Chrysalis, both of which were all right but don't count among any of my favourites lists."

Best-much = 1. Inter Arma. 2. Inquisition. 3. Stastical Probabilities.
