Just a question, not meant as an insult, but...

Do some of you REALLY think that Odo and Quark or Bashir and O'Brien are REALLY a better example of a friendship than Kirk, Spock, and McCoy? I mean, REALLY??

Hmmm..... (Thinks.)

YES.

I did, still do, will still do.... think so.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
That's not to say that McCoy etc didn't have a good friendy thing going too. But on second thoughts....

My answer remains unchanged.

Odo & Quark sort of became friends in the last two seasons. But they had a great relationship

Odo and Quark had a very interesting relationship due to the fact that they NEVER became friends.  Quark thought there was a two way relationship there, but it did not exist on Odo's end.  He completely and bluntly rejected Quark's peace offering even in the very last episode.

Still it is my favorite relationship due to that very fact.

Again, I think that's all well and good. I just have my suspicions that the answers some of you are giving come more from "which series I prefer" over isolating the point of this post which is about "friendships" and being objective to that criteria.

Fair 'nuff.

These are not unrelated questions however, if you really think about it. There is always the possibility that the answer to "best friendship" may have a significant effect on "best series" -- and vice versa.

I don't think Odo and Quark were friends. They had an amazing relationship, one might say almost entirely based on mutual schadenfreude (the gaining of pleasure from another person's misfortune.) And I think there was some level of grudging respect on both sides even though Quark came closer to admitting it than Odo ever did.

I voted Bashir/O"Brien, because K/S/M really should have been left off the list as it would almost have to be everyone's natural favorite.

However, you could look at these friendships in another way.  Who would die to save the other?  Look at "Non Sequitor" from Voyager.  I don't think Harry was just trying to save himself, but Paris, also.

In TATV from ENTERPRISE, Trip dies saving Archer.(The worst episode of ENTERPRISE by the way).

Of course, Spock's sacrifice in TWOK.

Phlox and T'Pol come to mind for Enterprise, you always see those two socializing in the mess hall.

How about the friendship between Seven of Nine and Captain Janeway? ¿I think that was usually one of the better ones around, imo. ¿They've always seemed to build a friendship in most eps of VOY. ¿
Needless to say, Kirk, Spock, and Bones are still tops on my list.

What about Chakotay and Janeway? There was hints of a deep friendship but it was never explored further.

I think the final VOY episode Endgame really ties the friendship Janeway had for both Chakotay and Seven in that in the original timeline Chakotay died an unhappy man when he lost Seven. So Janeway broke Starfleet protocol and changed the timeline to benefit the both of them.

And, while she was at it, got Voyager home sooner and gave the Borg a really bad whacking.

Question: Was the Borg destroyed or were they really really messed-up?

My favorite series is DS9, BUT the Best Trek friendship is Kirk/Bones/McCoy! The rapport between the three is the best! Even the one liners, the humor, the ....dare I say it...love is so well played and never matched by any other Trek friendship. C'mon, only a real friend would actually tell his superior officer "Dammit Jim!"

The holy trinity of course...Kirk, Spock, McCoy. But I loved the relationship between Janeway and Seven, Janeway took Seven under her wing and guided her through her difficult re-assimilation into human culture. Janeway in many ways was like a proud parent watching the progression of Seven.

An interesting although oddly appropriate choice of vocabulary. ^_^

I voted for Kirk/Spock/McCoy. They had a strange dynamic in my view. Kirk and Spock were friends, Kirk and McCoy were friends, all three of them together were a unified front. However, I never felt that McCoy and Spock were friends and that during the original series and most of the movies they were not really friends but co-workers who tolerated each other (most of the time) and they shared a mutual friend.

But both McCoy and Spock said some nasty things to one another.

True, they did say nasty things but it was mostly in jest  You can feel Spock's compassion for McCoy in "The Empath", and McCoy also later in TSFS said "I could not bear to lose you again".

Also since Spock entrusted his Katra to McCoy, instead of Saavik speaks volumes.
