Why could't JJ get the basics right?

Was watching TOS episode "The Man Trap" this weekend when I noticed that Uhura was flirting with Mr. Spock and asking him to tell her she was attractive. Ok no problem with the new movie bringing this relationship to the fore front since there were subtle hints in Star Trek canon. Then all hell broke loose... Lt. Uhura asks Spock what a romantic moon looks like on Vulcan. Spock tells Uhura Vulcan has no moon.

I'm just making an observation that everyone has already debated, but still had to post never the less. So in JJ's alternate universe Earth can be the 5th planet orbiting the sun and not the third right?

Vulcan had no moon in this movie. Delta Vega was another planet in close synchronized orbit to Vulcan.

Good observation. I love that part where Uhura gets shot down by Spocko  :logical: Although Delta Vega probably did look like our moon looks from Earth...

Remember, it's all because of the split timeline.  Yep, that explains everything...  Even why Vulcan suddenly has a moon.

See, it goes like this;

1. Timeline is disrupted.

2. Kirk's Father dies.

3. ???

4. Vulcan now has a moon.

5. Profit.

Delta Vega is an icy Class M planet in the Vulcan system. Its orbit carried it near enough to Vulcan that the other planet could be seen from Delta Vega's surface.

Which also explains why you can clearly see a planetary body in the Vulcan sky in "Star Trek-The Motion Picture." It has often been speculated that Vulcan is close to other bodies, as evidenced by that shot in TMP, but that they are obviously not considered "moons" based on Spock's statement.

There, problem solved.

Amazing how easy it is!

Its a reboot anything goes.

Reboot, in serial fiction, means a discarding of much or even all previous continuity in the series, to start anew. Effectively, all previously-known fictive history is declared by the writer(s) to be null and void, or at least irrelevant to the current storyline, and the series starts over.

Actually Vulcan had TWO moons in TOS..... you would have known that if you had paid closer attention.
