There's great news today for Trekkers and Dr. Who fans who couldn't make it to London for the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2008 production of Hamlet. PBS has announced that Dr. Who's David Tennant will be bringing his portrayal of the Danish prince from the stage to the small screen. Tennant won critical acclaim for his 2008 portrayal of the classic Shakespearean character. PBS said that the TV adaptation will appear in 2010 as part of its "Great Performances" series, and--more importantly for Trek fans--will reunite Tennant with his Hamlet co-star, Patrick Stewart.

Awesome! I'd love to see that. Will Patrick be playing Claudius? I remember watching an older version of Hamlet in my AP Lit class - he played Claudius and Derek Jacobi played Hamlet. I think Patrick was wearing a wig, because both my friend Rachel (the only other Trekkie at my high school) and I said "He looks so weird with hair!"

I think he played the King (I should have read the play by now but haven't) and the ghost. I so hope that some kind person will youtube this, so that the brits who can only afford to go to london once in a blue moon can see it.

It sounds like a great combination.  I thought Stewart might make a good Dr. Who as well--if they ever cast anyone over 40 ever again.
